Kevin Smith to get his own talk show

Some strange news here… It seems Kevin Smith, writer and director of Clerks, Dogma and Zack and Miri Make A Porno is to get his own, daily talk show.

Smith, ever popular with live audiences when he has his candid chats such as at Comic-Con would certainly have the pulling power to get some big, and interesting celebrities on the show.

It's being rumoured the move is due to Kevin receiving some rather tepid film reviews of late.

Below is an email that Vulture got hold of which gives us a taste of what the show might be like:

"A daily 30-minute entertainment talk show for syndication ... The idea is a Regis and Kelly talk show at the opposite end of the day for the opposite kind of audience — the 12-34 demo. Kevin and his co-host will talk water-cooler topics at the top of the show, followed by a celebrity interview and a comedy segment from the field (a la The Daily Show ). Each show will feature one celebrity interview."

So, apart from reference to the mostly excellent The Daily Show this really sounds like… well… any other talk show out there, except, of course, you have Smith as your host.

The working title is The Kevin Smith Show . Filming has reportedly already started for the pilot, and Kevin has invited fans, via Tweets, to come and be audience members. We doubt he'll have much trouble filling those spaces, but will he have what it takes to be a hit with the wider public?

Smith’s next film, Red State , a horror film with religious fundamentalists as the villains, is due for release on 19th October in the US, maybe when we’ve seen that we can better judge whether this talk show is a misstep or an inspired change of career.
