Julianne Moore confirmed for Carrie remake

Carrie , Kimberly Pierce's remake of Brian De Palma's classic horror, has confirmed a second piece of major casting, with Julianne Moore signing on to play Carrie's mother, Margaret White.

We reported a few weeks ago that MGM were talking to Moore about the part, and now all the red tape appears to have been cleared, with Deadline reporting that the deal is done.

She'll be starring opposite Chloë Moretz, whose burgeoning telekinesis and troubles with bullying will be exacerbated by the presence of her domineering, fundamentally religious mother.

MGM has also added The Three Musketeers star Gabrielle Wilde to the cast in the role of Sue Snell. You'll remember her character from the original, as the recipient of a rather nasty surprise in the film's final reel…

Pierce is thought to be using Stephen King's original novel as inspiration for her remake, so hopefully we should get a fresh take on this high school-set nightmare. Carrie will open in the US on 15 March 2013, with a UK release date to be confirmed.
