Jon Favreau in discussions to direct Disney’s The Jungle Book

Disney’s latest take on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book looks set to bag itself a director, with Deadline reporting that Jon Favreau is currently in discussions with the studio.

With the property currently in the public domain, Disney are keen to get things moving on this one as soon as possible, with Justin Marks currently working on a script ahead of a 2014 start date.

Favreau himself has a long-standing relationship with Disney, given his work on the Iron Man films, and seems excited by the prospect of bringing Mowgli and chums to life.

“I can’t say that much,” teases Favreau, “but there is an interesting take that could be very cool and the hope is to relaunch a family brand with certain mythic elements.”

“It is my first real family film since Elf , and there are action elements and visual effects that I feel like my experience on the Iron Man films are going to be useful.”

So long as there is a singing bear in there somewhere, we’ll be satisfied…
