John C Reilly, Jonah Hill and Marisa Tomei are busy negotiating to join the cast of Fox Searchlight’s Safety Man.
Variety reports that the plot finds a recent divorcee (Reilly) hooking up with the woman of his dreams (Tomei), only to discover that her teenage son (Hill) disproves of the union.
Mark and Jay Duplass, better known for indie/festival films such as The Puffy Chair, have written the script and plan to direct.
Family issues
While the rough plot outline makes us worry that it’ll fall squarely into the mundane family issues ground trod by the likes of the awful Mama’s Boy and the better-but-not-classic Step Brothers, the presence of the cast and the quirk-filled directors fills us with hope.
With shooting set to gear up in January, we hope the studio doesn’t beat the last shred of originality out of this one.
