In a development that should surprise exactly no one given the first film’s $70-million-and-counting haul, New Line and Platinum Dunes are working on a follow-up to the Friday The 13th reboot.
Writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who punched out that blood-splattered run-around, are already brainstorming on ideas for a new outing.
Thing is, it’s unlikely to be a direct sequel – since Friday The 13th hoovered in plot elements from the first four films of the original series - and no one really likes where the movies went from there.
What, no Jason takes Manhattan? Shocker!
And while Jason’s naturally a lock, the two survivors of the reboot - Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti – are busy on TV shows, so if they do come back, the producers might need to work around their schedules.
Not to mention the production team is sort of focused on reworking another big horror franchise – with a revised version of A Nightmare On Elm Street due to start shooting in a couple of months.
Still, that’s not stopping the Line or the Dunes – the companies are aiming to have something in cinemas by the end of next year.
