James Mangold on a harder-edged Wolverine

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine heads up an X-Men special in the brand-new issue 209 of Total Film magazine.

Inside the issue, we look at the secrets of the mutant superteam, from behind-the-scenes snaps of previous X-movies, to a look forward to Days Of Future Past . Plus, we join director James Mangold in the edit suite to get the scoop on The Wolverine .

“That was definitely intentional,” admitted Mangold when we pointed out that the footage we were shown seemed to have a much harder edge than previous X-Men movies.

“I wanted his anger embedded in the film. If you were a mutant who’s never really found your place in the world, who’s lost everyone you loved, and who has been fucked with by the defence department [ Wolverine’s near-indestructible adamantium skeleton is a result of shady military experiments ], you’re probably going to be pretty angry…”
