With the Olympics in full flow, it's unsurprising that Athens 2004 gets a second wind and challenges for first place with a 55% increase in sales over last week. However, demon-slaying gameplay prevails and Doom 3 retains its number one position, with Athens having to settle for the second slot.

There are three new entries to the top 20 and it's Ubisoft's Xbox-exclusive Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow that excels by coming straight in at number four. Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction scrapes in at 20 in its second week of release.

Retail promotions have also been a feature of this week's game sales with Medal of Honor: Rising Sun leaping from 24 to 14, while the cheap and cheerful International Cue Club breaks in at 18.

Expect things to change significantly over the next month with many budget titles vying for you cash - notably Homeworld 2, Knights of the Old Republic and The Simpsons: Hit and Run - alongside new releases such as Sudeki, Conflict: Vietnam, Juiced, ShellShock: Nam '67, Burnout 3: Takedown, Resident Evil: Outbreak, Second Sight and Sims 2.
