Is this the Nintendo 3DS?

We’re not expecting to receive any official product shots of the new Nintendo 3DS until this year’s E3 Expo this June. But a ton of mysterious photos of what appears to be Nintendo’s new handheld device have been making their way around the internet since they were first sighted this morning on the Japanese gaming site, Mogu Mogu. Check out more photos of what may be the first images of the new Nintendo 3DS below.

According to Mogu Mogu, these shots were taken and published without the manufacturer’s permission and without any official confirmation from Nintendo, these images are still stuck in our rumor bin. Still, they do look mighty interesting! What do you think? Do these photos seem legit to you? A penny for your thoughts in the comments section below.

Above: The D-pad, analog stick, and four face buttons all appear to be in the proper place

Above: Looks like you'll be able to rotate the control piece below the screen to adjust whether the device is horizontally or vertically aligned

Above: Perhaps games will require you to switch between the two alignments? Vertical seems the way to go for puzzlers and shooters

Above: The alleged Nintend 3DS sitting on an issue of Jump to give you a sense of scale

Above: A look at how the dual screens may work in vertical mode

Above: According to Mogu Mogu, the scanner worked well on this manga image

Above: If this is the real deal, this image shows how 3D compositing could work in photographs you take and games you play, allowing onscreen objects to rotate as you tilt the device

it looks way to heavy and big and ds stands for dualk screen so it needs 2 screens but looks very kewl

It does look good, But it looks a bit too big to be a portable console. All the other DS's you could fit into your pocket, same with the PSP. But this one looks like it might bit just a bit too big for that. So I'm not sure if it's real. If it is then it looks epic. :L. Even if it's not real it still looks good. I'd love to have one. :P.

oh, god... if this is real... *shudders* this is gonna be more cramped than the Go... :(
  • wrapdump - April 7, 2010 8:22 a.m.

Having measured a copy of Jump, I'd gues that it's about 17cm x 9cm. So it's what, only marginally larger than a PSP?
  • Samael - April 7, 2010 7:34 a.m.

Yeah, almost definitely fake. It looks like if I picked it up by the bottom it would snap in half.
  • GrrSnort - April 7, 2010 7:20 a.m.

Also, the film grain of the background for the shot is too obvious. The person making these pics didn't apply the same "digital film grain" to his composites.
  • GrrSnort - April 7, 2010 7:17 a.m.

The lighting doesn't match up in certain pics. Also, while very well done, the render of the controller area is too flat. It's a fake, but it's a very well done fake.
  • CH3BURASHKA - April 7, 2010 6:26 a.m.

Fake. For some reason I doubt Nintendo will stray too far from their current design. An analog is definitely out of the question IMO.
  • pimpboo - April 7, 2010 3:23 a.m.

The pics are all tooken by the same guy I guess so it seems real but at the same time it looks fake because there would be pics of the otherside of that model plus ds stands for dual screen and it doesn't have. 2 screens plus it just looks like someone took an iPod and attached to a gameboy
  • reverandglass - April 7, 2010 2:59 a.m.

real or not the idea of a rotating screen could be awesome for old school shooters. Can't work out how the mechanism works on this though it would be way too prone to breaking. My gut says fake.
  • n00b - April 7, 2010 2:40 a.m.

also i think this is fake it looks too textury to be real
  • n00b - April 7, 2010 2:34 a.m.

this is what the iphone should have been a touch screen phone with a slide out tucked underneath. its perfection personafied how could apple be so stupid to rely solely on touch, especially for gaming i mean the controls are terrible. especially for games you'd think would be suited for the iphone. as much as they advertise it as the next portable gaming device the iphone has nothing on the original "block" game boy in terms of control and games. guess thats why nintendo didn't go exclusively touch while designing the ds sorry rant over
  • D0CCON - April 7, 2010 1:30 a.m.

I say no. It looks eerily similar to a PSP Go and its hard to call something a DS if it has one screen. Also, like somebody else said, it does look top heavy (and not very portable or even playable)
  • masterj2k11 - April 7, 2010 1:17 a.m.

Please let this be fake. I will not stand for another single analog stick control scheme. Just go touch or go home nintendo.
  • breener96 - April 7, 2010 1:12 a.m.

Why would they have 2 screens if they were both normal screens? The point of the two screens was so one was a touch screen and one was normal. I don't think that these are real.
  • ultimatepunchrod - April 7, 2010 1:02 a.m.

it looks ok. i dont know. id definitely have to see how this feels in your hand. it looks kind of awkward but it could be ok if this is it.
  • Dutch - April 7, 2010 12:59 a.m.

it would be too top heavy, that can't be real.
  • MrKrunkle - April 7, 2010 12:45 a.m.

Has everybody forgotten about this trailer ? I know its only a trailer and that could change at any point but really it seems like thats what they are going for.
  • lovinmyps3 - April 7, 2010 12:36 a.m.

I bet it's fake. It still looks pretty cool though. reCAPTCHA: down banana Poor banana. =(
  • Cyberninja - April 7, 2010 12:33 a.m.

I am with WonsAuto even though i wish this was real its more likly to be more like the old ones with 2 actual screens that plus on their is no place for 2 cameras and a mic because they said it will be able it will be able to play most if not all games for ds. but if they mean all the ds games then the gba slot will have to come back to play GH: on tour. but if this is the real deal i will be happy
