Iron Man rules the US box office a second week

It was another successful week for the Shellhead across the pond as Iron Man dropped just 49% from its first weekend. The movie made $50.5 million, and has brought its Stateside total up to $177.1 million.

Speed Racer made much less impact, arriving in second place with $20.2 million. That put it only just ahead of What Happens In Vegas, which launched in third place with $20 million. There’s a chance that, once the final figures arrive, that the Cameron Diaz/Ashton Kutcher comedy could best the ‘toon adaptation.

The new arrivals pushed Made Of Honour down to fourth place, making $7.6 million its second week for a running total of $26 million. Baby Mama slipped to fifth place with $5.7 million and Forgetting Sarah Marshall moved down to sixth place, making $3.7 million. At seventh place, Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay took in $3.1 million for a current total of $30.7 million, meaning the film has already made its budget back.

The Forbidden Kingdom is languishing in eighth, with $48 million in the bank, while Nim’s Island sits in ninth with $44.2 million to date. And slipping into the top 10 at the bottom is David Mamet’s Redbelt, which has made $1.2 million so far.
