IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 is one of the most difficult games we’ve played in recent years – expect a steep learning curve, especially for newcomers to this game or genre – thankfully a slew of difficulty options helps lower that curve. Further enhancing the massive replayability of Maddox’s masterpiece are static and dynamic campaigns, single-player & custom-designed missions, and multi-player. We found the latter problematic until we discovered HyperLobby, a nifty flight-sim matchmaking utility that works far better than the barebones options in IL-2 1946.
Aside from the half-functional multi-player and a brutal learning curve, there’s nothing about IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 that isn’t amazing. Superb aircraft flight modeling? Check. Amazing looking aircraft? Check. More than 220 different aircraft and around 200 missions? Check. Strap in and watch your ass - this flight sim is ready for take-off - if you are.
