Hugh Jackman talks problems with X-Men Origins

From what we've seen so far of James Mangold's The Wolverine , it looks less a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine , and more a total reboot of the character.

That shift in tone is at least partially down to the muted reaction the previous film was met with, a sense of disappointment that was shared by Hugh Jackman himself.

"We could have done better," says Jackman. "Somehow the first Wolverine movie ended up looking like the fourth X-Men , just with different characters. I left unsure if we'd achieved our goal, which was to make sure people understood my character."

With Wolverine also scheduled to appear in X-Men: Days Of Future Past , does Jackman see himself continuing in the role for some time to come?

"I wasn't even sure after [ X-Men Origins: Wolverine ] if I would do another," muses the star. "I won't say never, because I'm still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason."

The Wolverine opens in the UK on 26 July 2013.
