First Westworld trailer is all about the robots

HBO has revealed the first trailer for its Westworldremake, the sci-fi Western set in a set in a futuristic theme park, where a fleet of robots fulfil the most hedonistic desires of the park’s guests. And while the new show will broadly follow the same storyline as the 1973 film of the same name, HBO president Michael Lombardo has confirmed it will place more emphasis on the perspective of said robots…

"This is very much told from the POV of the robots", said Lombardo. "The corporate world’s as dimensionalized as the park. And I think the visitors to the park are really not the primary focus of our show at all. It resembles the film in name and in spirit and but really is, I think, otherwise not much of a reference point."

While that first trailer might not give a huge amount away in terms of concrete plot details, it does a great job of establishing the show’s unnervingly sinister tone. Co-starring Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, James Marsden and Ed Harris, Westworld will debut on HBO in 2016, with a specific air date to be confirmed.
