Halo: Reach multiplayer strategy guide

Thus far, only two maps have been revealed. We’ll update this guide as Bungie rotates new maps into the beta (we hear Friday will be the next update.)

Powerhouse

Above: The deadliest camping spot on Powerhouse is the shadowy corner ledge on the right - there's a Stalker there RIGHT NOW!

Powerhouse is laid out in and around a hydroelectric power facility. Provides a good mix of indoor and outdoor action, and a surprising amount of verticality thanks to jetpacks. Generally splits into uphill and downhill sides, with the uphill part of the map having more buildings/corridors and the downhill featuring more isolated structures and boulders.

Best match types: Stockpile, Headhunter

The best way to get the most out of your Armor Power is to pair it with the appropriate weapon. Here are the locations of the key weapons on Powerhouse.

Focus rifle

Above: It's along the edge of the concrete wall in the open area with the big beams overhead

Gravity hammer

Above: From the downhill spawn area, run up the ramp and into the building on the right -  it's on the right-hand side

Shotgun

Above: Discreetly tucked against one of the lower embankments in the downhill side of the map

Rocket launcher

Above: In the dead-end passageway on the uphill side of the water

Grenade launcher

Above: See the toilets? There’s a shower to the right where the grenade launcher is hid (Also, this is a great place to hide out in Oddball)

There's a special website for the Halo Reach strategy guide: http://haloreachstrategyguide.com ... go figure :-) It has most of the Halo Reach strategy guides available, with some videos.

I always thought that using armour lock would be a good way of becoming a spartan roadblock for vehicles... As a warthog zooms towards you, armour lock and BOOM One trashed pig

Button and equipment references have been fixed, although I didn't write the guide, so can't say if everything's fixed.

i dunno, this game is pretty good but i just can't get kills in it, i dunno, maybe i am just used to cod. I be pumping clips into people and they just don't die

Armour lock is a really good power in oddball games, even on Sword Base as it does mean you take more time to get to the oddball but once you have it you can just activate armour lock if things heat up and have a greater chance of surviving any grenade spam. The only problem is the other player can just pick up the oddball and wait to beat you in the face in which case you really need a sword/hammer or sticky grenade.

Soryy for repost but it's not "plasma sword" it's an energy sword.
  • BIOSback - May 6, 2010 5:45 a.m.

Heres a tip for gaurd. If you have plasma grenades you can stick someone up close and if they run at you (which they most likely will) just shield and BOOM! your safe they're dead. p.s. It's LB not L1.

Way too many mistakes in this guide. Get your shit together, GR staff.
  • Jesse1066 - May 6, 2010 3:04 a.m.

Probably because he can "sprint using L1."

@lovinmyps3: Invasion mode comes out on May 7, along with the map Boneyard. And by the way; if you're loving your PS3 why do you care about Halo?
  • lovinmyps3 - May 6, 2010 2:20 a.m.

Why isn't Invasion a game mode in the beta? I thought it was going to be in the beta...
  • cholobear911 - May 5, 2010 8:08 p.m.

19why must the fun end on may 19, and why do people boost for a beta i mean really?
  • gutlessVADER - May 5, 2010 4:45 p.m.

Plasma sword?! Really? And the Arbiter could only turn invisible in Halo 2. In Halo 3 he kinda just sat there. Nice tips, though.

Might want to add to armor lock that it auctally deflects things like rockets, grenades and plasma launcher shoots if they dont hit you directly. Gotten many kills from somone firing a load of plasma grenades from plasma laucnher at me and then watching them fly in every direction around the room, hitting nearby enemies. Armor lock is also great for lining up shots with the sniper rfile with a little practice, since you exit in the direction the camera is facing and can fire before you auctally go all the way back to first person. So with a little practice you can line up a headshot on the guy waiting for you to exit.

sorry, not sure why i flipped between power/armor
  • matt588 - May 5, 2010 4:38 a.m.

here's a tip: watch where you armor lock!!! played CTF on sword base (alot of grenade spamming btw) and the other team came down the ramp beside back stair and all hurled grenades in the room, and a power locked teammate blocked the door. (i guess i could have jumped over him, didn't even know he was there), oh and they killed him after his power lock timed out.

"Use cloaking to turn your Spartan invisible, as when playing the Arbiter in Halo 3." You mean Halo 2, right?
  • Samael - May 5, 2010 3:02 a.m.

"Scout gives you the ability to sprint using L1" Yeah, you guys might want to change that to LB asap...
  • WillisTron - May 5, 2010 2:47 a.m.

"Scout gives you the ability to sprint using L1" I didn't know Reach was coming out on PS3!?
  • Spydie4x4 - May 5, 2010 2:15 a.m.
