Halo: Reach Data Pad location guide

DATA PAD 10

Mission: Winter Contingency
(Legendary Difficulty)

By far, the hardest data pad to collect in Halo: Reach. As soon as the mission begins, an invisible Covenant Elite - with the tenth data pad strapped to his back - will begin running from the circular base below you. You have to catch up and shoot him before he disappears completely. Jump out of the Falcon and immediately race downhill, through the tiered farm fields. Use the Sprint ability once or twice to close the gap before firing.

Once you feel comfortably within range, switch to your pistol and make... every... bullet... COUNT. Aim for the head, and switch back to your assault rifle instead of reloading your pistol. If you have a co-op partner, take turns shooting and reloading so that the Elite is ALWAYS losing health.

If he makes it around the corner with the ostrich-like creatures, he’s almost gone. Use one last Sprint and hope for the best. Otherwise, restart the mission - you can skip the cutscene, but yep, you’ll have to watch that Falcon land again every single time. Stay calm, and good luck!

DATA PAD 11

Mission: ONI: Sword Base
(Legendary Difficulty)

When you first receive the Warthog, you’ll be given two possible destinations: a comm array or an artillery gun. Head for the comm array to the east - it’s a left turn if you’re facing the cliff. This is the landmark you’re looking for...

Clear the area of enemies, then climb stairs to the roof of the building pictured. You’ll find a broken bridge connecting the structure to the nearby mountain - use Sprint to jump the gap. It may take you several tries, which is why you want to kill all the Covenant beforehand.

Made it? Walk forward across the rocks and you’ll see the eleventh data pad.

DATA PAD 12

Mission: Nightfall
(Legendary Difficulty)

Load up Rally Point Alpha and fight - or run - through the mission until you reach the section pictured below. It’s immediately after you encounter the planet’s indigenous troll creatures, and immediately before rendezvousing with some friendly troops. Skip the combat here and enter the empty riverbed with glowing green lights on either side.

Look for a small rock on the right side, and jump on top. The rest of the path is fairly obvious, but also very lengthy and windy, so definitely watch our video. You’ll need to climb up and down several more rocks, as well as leap over a couple gaps.

Thanks for the guide and everything. I tried finding them on my own but didn't realise there was so many. By the way, what is with your armour? The colours are cool but it is the standard from when you first start.

I found the data pad #1 and at first I though it was a unique thing like just one chunk of back story and then I though it resembled the terminals in Halo 3 and then I looked here and found this!! now I can haz them allz =3

Guide is now complete! All 19 data pads are ready for the taking... you'll definitely want to watch our videos and read our text carefully for the Legendary difficulty pads.

Excuse me but you are missing a data pad. on the first level as you get off the falcon if you run towards where the moa are you may notice a faint shimmer of a elite in camo if you kill him he drops a data pad. This can only be done on legendary

oh, he drops the datapad when he's dead...

Most of them you need to be on Legendary to find. But there is one I know for sure is missing from the list: there is two in the first mission, one right after you drop off the falcon. You need to sprint down the hill and shoot the cloaked elite running away from the becon to the birds, in front of the gate. You can't miss when shooting; because by the time you reload he's out of sight, out of range, and unable to catch. So once off sprint down the hill to the gate and shoot when you see him (in the head!).

To make finding the second data pad easier (the one found in the multiplayer part of Sword Base) you could say that it's right next to where the shotgun is on the multiplayer map. (It really is kind of sad that most of the multiplayer maps are direct rips from the campaign missions.)

You get NOTHING for collecting them. No points, no cool abilities, near as we can tell. There's the text in the log and that appears to be it. But some are so cleverly hidden they're fun to grab anyway. The others are coming soon!

When I commented I hadn't actually looked at the locations and when I was playing Level 1 today I found that data-pad by accident.
  • Hitsugaya2112 - September 18, 2010 4:09 a.m.

I'm proud to say I actually found the first one on my first playthrough. Now to find the rest of them!
  • SausageLozenge - September 20, 2010 1:04 a.m.

Do you get anything if you collect them, besides the story that is? In Halo 3 you unlocked armor for finding the skulls. Stuff in Waypoint? Maybe they will put them as a weekly challenge eventually.
  • Markstone - September 18, 2010 10:34 p.m.

I didn't realize that there was even anything to collect . . . but this guide should make finding them a tad easier

  • GamesRadarCharlieBarratt - September 18, 2010 4:59 p.m.

@OhMyJosh Read the text, please - the next 10 data pads, which we'll be guiding you to next week, require playing on Legendary difficulty. Recaptcha: difficulty anador

I'm sorry, Charlie, but I find this article completely biased towards collectibles.
