Halo 3 beta arrives May 16

Halo 3 fans have reason to celebrate - not only has Bungie revealed that Wednesday, May 16 will see Halo 3's multiplayer beta erupt onto Xbox Live, but in this brand new videocast from the Halo -makers, you can see the much discussed man cannon in full catapulting action.

The beta will be available beginning May 16 at 5 a.m. PDT, and run through June 6 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, and will feature three maps - Snowbound, High Ground and Valhalla - each with a very different look and design. While lucky gamers who snatched up special copies of Crackdown (and the Halo beta pass it contained) will also get ahold of new weapons like the Spartan Laser and Spike Grenades, and speed around on the new Mongoose vehicle.

In the video below you'll see plenty of gameplay footage, showing off the new destined-for-double-entendre-overload man cannon feature, the super-tactical bubble shields in action and lots of developer types endlessly 'smack talking' one another. Enjoy!
