Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is confirmed but James Gunn might not direct

It’s always the way with superhero movies these days. You’re waiting patiently for a movie, say Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and bam a sequel to that has been confirmed before you’ve even laid eyes on the second movie. That’s the case again with the Guardians franchise as director James Gunn has all but confirmed the Guardians threequel, but he’s not sure if he’ll be directing it.

Speaking to Complex, Gunn opened up about whether we’re getting Guardians 3, “There will be a Guardians 3, that's for sure... I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I'm going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I'm just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.”

A Gunn-less Guardians would be a pretty bitter pill for Marvel to swallow with his vision for the franchise going above and beyond what was previously expected, but here’s hoping he stays on for one last rodeo.

Directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit UK cinemas on April 28, 2017 and open in US theaters on May 5, 2017.
