The Green Hornet may be straining under the weight of some pretty condemning reviews, but that didn’t stop the film flying straight to the top of the US box office this weekend.

Taking a fair $34m, it knocked True Grit into third place ($11m), and beat other newcomer The Dilemma . The controversial Winona Ryder film settled for second with $17m.

In fourth place, The King’s Speech proved popular ($9m), no doubt boosted by Golden Globe chatter, while Black Swan continued to put in a strong performance in fifth ($8m).

Little Fockers also showed it had stamina, having stayed in the top ten since Christmas, now in sixth with $7m. Meanwhile, Tron: Legacy logged onto seventh place ($5.6m), beating Yogi Bear in eighth ($5.1m).

Rounding out the chart, David O. Russell’s stellar boxing drama The Fighter hung back in ninth ($5.1m) and Nic Cage’s atrocious Season Of The Witch clung on in tenth ($4.5m).
