The Green Hornet
may be straining under the weight of some pretty condemning reviews, but that didn’t stop the film flying straight to the top of the US box office this weekend.
Taking a fair $34m, it knocked
into third place ($11m), and beat other newcomer
. The controversial Winona Ryder film settled for second with $17m.
In fourth place,
The King’s Speech
proved popular ($9m), no doubt boosted by Golden Globe chatter, while
continued to put in a strong performance in fifth ($8m).
also showed it had stamina, having stayed in the top ten since Christmas, now in sixth with $7m. Meanwhile,
logged onto seventh place ($5.6m), beating
in eighth ($5.1m).
Rounding out the chart, David O. Russell’s stellar boxing drama
hung back in ninth ($5.1m) and Nic Cage’s atrocious
Season Of The Witch
clung on in tenth ($4.5m).
