Thanks to trophy listings telling us they exist, we knew there was one hidden boss in each of Gravity Rush’s three Rift Plane levels. But that’s about all the game tells you. Below we’ve detailed where to find each of the rare Nevi and how to beat them.
If you can’t defeat one of these baddies when you first visit their Rift Plane, don’t worry. You may need to do some leveling up before you pose a real threat. Rift Planes can be revisited at any time after chapter 17 by speaking to Gade, who will then be a permanent fixture right outside Kat’s pipe house.
Note: All three of Kat’s special attacks (Spiraling Claw, Gravity Typhoon, and Micro Black Hole) are useless against these rare boss Nevi.
Location: From the first flower, look for the massive tower in the distance. Fall to the very bottom of that tower (if you’re going out of bounds, try staying closer to the tower as you descend), where on the underside you’ll find a hole. Enter here to find the rare Nevi.
This Nevi is small but fierce. From a distance, it will launch a wide spread of small fireballs at you. Up close, it’s tentacle will smack you down for some serious damage. The key to winning lies in your bread and butter kick combo.
Our method: Land near the Nevi, wait for it to telegraph its single melee attack, evade, then follow up with the kick combo. It takes a while, but as long as you’re watching out for that sweeping tendril, you should be safe. You don’t even need to leave the ground.
Location: Once you reach the second flower, drop down below the platform it’s on and look for a rail leading into a tunnel.
This needs to be a hit-and-run battle. Gravity Kick a weak point, then retreat to a safe distance, whether that be near the lava wall or inside the entrance tunnel. If you stay too close to the boss, he’ll unleash an area of effect attack. If you hover in the airspace surrounding him, he’ll unleash a stretchy punch for heavy damage. If you can avoid that punch, he’ll be stuck in a recovery state for several seconds, giving you an opening to attack.
Our method: Start by standing in the entrance tunnel and suspend Kat. Aim the gravity reticule just to the right of the Nevi, then fly past him. When his punch whiffs, get one good gravity kick in (if you’re feeling gutsy, two) and retreat back to the tunnel. Repeat, going back to the flower for health when/if needed.
Location: From next to the third flower, look off to your right. You should spot an orange orb floating out in space. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice four beams sticking out of it. When you get close enough to this object, the boss will appear.
The first time you enter The Mirage, you’ll be severely handicapped. We highly recommend returning here to challenge to boss when you’re at full strength.
The entire fight takes place off the ground, so make sure your gravity meter stats are high and Gravity Kick is leveled up. The Nevi’s only attack is a series of about 10 red homing projectiles, fired in quick succession. Because of that, you’ll probably want to avoid flying straight towards the Nevi. Instead, try circling around it, waiting for the small break it takes between the series of shots. This is your chance to strike.
Do not forget your air evade. This can save you if your flight path is off. If you take too much damage, return to the flower and grab some health.
Our method: Circle just above the Nevi, attacking only when it pauses between volleys. We also had success flying from a medium distance straight towards the Nevi, evading the fireballs until they stopped, then using the gravity kick. You need a high level of evade for that method to work, however.
