Gran Turismo 5 Prologue real life comparison

Eiger Nordwand
This is the circuit from the one-track Gran Turismo HD demo and it’s virtually unchanged here. It seems a little sharper, perhaps, but that’s about it. While we can’t find a real picture taken right down on the track, you can clearly see the three buildings before the start/finish straight, and the two roads leading away from them. The mountain looks similar… although we have to say the horizon in the game doesn’t look identical to the real-life pics. Doesn’t really matter, though – you don’t see the mountain that much during the race, and the colour scheme is spot-on.

Above: It looks like a great holiday destination... or you can visit it for 10 mins on your PS3 and save youself a week of holiday timeand an air fare. Result!

Conclusion? It looks nice, but a tad sterile. The tracks in the game are very close to their real-life counterparts, just a little cleaner and with a touch of artistic license. We do long for some imperfections, though. PGR4 convincingly dirtied up its tracks over PGR3, whereas GT5P is more like Forza 2 in terms of clean lines. And it has to be said thatGT5Pstill looks very similar to PS2’s Gran Turismo 4. To be honest, we were expecting a little more ‘wow’ from the game’s environments, especially when most trees are still made up of two crossed polygons.

We’ll bring you much more on the game as it gears up for its March 27 UK release (April 17 in the US).
