For the most part, combat in dungeons will be similar to what you’ve seen in other MMOs. Tanks pull. Healers heal. And DPS calls in the nukes to clear the way to the boss. But even in what Aeria Games staff called a fairly typical mid-level dungeon run, we saw some interesting additions. Random encounters do happen on occasion. For example, you might see an empty shell in the corner, which gets filled up by a giant snail that’ll start attacking you.
Above: Eden Eternal also includes a lovers system. Partner up with a friend, and you’ll receive shared bonuses and buffs when adventuring together. Any race and gender combination is okay
Bosses also have a “BP” meter in addition to the traditional health bar. Every boss has a special weakness. Usually, it’s to a certain type of elemental magic or type of melee attack (like slashing or stabbing damage). Hit the boss with an attack that its weak against and you’ll lower its BP meter in addition to its health. If your party manages to “break” the boss by depleting its “BP” meter before the fight ends, you’ll get a more dramatic death animation and access to a special loot table with more rare items.
After spending about three hours looking at what Eden Eternal has to offer, the game’s anime-influenced art style should be especially appealing to MMO fans who also like JRPGs. But hardcore players shouldn’t dismiss the game as a dumbed down RPG. The game may look cute, but with all the usual MMO amenities and its especially in-depth character development system, there appears to be more than enough to make Eden Eternal worth checking out for veterans.
Above: With a higher production value than most F2P titles, Eden Eternal features some snazzy looking effects for spells and special attacks
