As voting for the Golden Joystick Awards 2012 enters its final weeks, we take a look at each of the individual categories. Today is the turn of Best Sports category.
Best Sports shortlist:
Who are we voting for?
Matt Cundy (UK Editor): Still think too many drama-goals are scored in the 45th and 90th minutes, and the lack of a 'Play again with different teams' option that doesn't require having to return to the main menu is baffling, but FIFA 12 was my most played sports game of the year (although Everybody's Golf on Vita isn't far behind) and the closest to a perfect pretend kickabout we've seen yet.
David Houghton (UK Associate Editor): SSX. Absolutely no other possibility. It revels in the sheer, basic joy of movement and control like few games in any genre do, but then it blends that joy with a bucketload of finesse, depth and niance, and soaks the whole product in ninety-seven gallons of adrenaline. Oh, and there's neon everywhere and it has a kickass soundtrack. Combine those two elements with really good snow and you've basically got me.
Justin Towell (UK Content Editor): Undoubtedly FIFA 12 for me. Even though I swore I’d never play it again *cough*, there’s no denying the quality of the game engine, nor the countless hours of online and lunchtime fun I’ve had with it. Yes, it turned sour in the end with all those 90th minute stingers, but I will be begrudgingly voting for this one!
Those are the sports games getting our votes, but what about you – who are you voting for? Tell us in the comments.
Head to Golden Joystick Awards to vote. Voting closes 22 October. The Golden Joystick Awards 2012 take place 26 October.
