As voting for the Golden Joystick Awards 2012 enters its final weeks, we take a look at each of the individual categories. Today is the turn of Best Shooters category.
Best Shooters shortlist:
Who are we voting for?
Matt Cundy (UK Editor): I had a ridiculous amount of fun with the bullet cam and I’m still a sucker for bullet-time so it’s absolutely got to be Max Payne 3 for me. And if there was a Best Soundtrack category I’d be voting for it there as well. But there’s not. So Best Shooter will have to do.
David Houghton (UK Associate Editor): Surprisingly tricky one to judge, this year. Despite essentially being a massive list of sequels and remakes, there are a few absolute gems screaming for my vote. Tribes Ascend is an utterly unique multiplayer shooter with a sheer joy of movement and control like no other. Spec Ops is a brutal, meaty, clever, and smartly uncomfortable horror show. But I'm going with Resistance 3, for turning a totally average series right around with a brilliant degree of flair and finesse, and some deliciously free-form combat. Yes, it's basically an unofficial remake of Half-Life 2 in terms of settings and story, but if you're going to steal...
Justin Towell (UK Content Editor): Binary Domain deserves more praise than it got. Sure, it's predictable and a little clunky... and the voice control is pretty pointless... but Rage disappointed me, the Darkness II became very one-note very quickly and I have CoD fatigue, in all honesty. So Binary Domain gets my vote for embracing the fact it's just a video game and just trying to be as entertaining as possible.
Those are the shooters getting our votes, but what about you – who are you voting for? Tell us in the comments.
Head to Golden Joystick Awards to vote. Voting closes 22 October. The Golden Joystick Awards 2012 take place 26 October.
