As voting for the Golden Joystick Awards 2012 enters its final weeks, we take a look at each of the individual categories. Today is the turn of Best Fighter category.
Best Fighter shortlist:
Who are we voting for?
Matt Cundy (UK Editor): I’d love to see ‘Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm – Generations’ win because the person that etches the Golden Joystick plaques with his/her little etching tools gets paid by the letter and it’d be like winning the lottery and they might invite me on a round-the-world trip on the luxury yacht they would subsequently buy. And I quite fancy a round-the-world trip on a luxury yacht. But that’s unlikely so I’m voting for Soul Calibur V.
David Houghton (UK Associate Editor): I'm going with BlazBlue. It's not the most accessible, or immediately rewarding, or the goriest, or the shiniest (though it is gorgeous), but is is the best. And 'Best Fighting Game' is what this category is called. In terms of pure, precision-engineered, deep-as-the-bowels-of-hell fighting design, there is no game on this list better than BlazBlue.
Justin Towell (UK Content Editor): Even though Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom is a stonking game, I think the pleasant surprise at how good Soulcalibur 5 turned out to be just tips it over into winning my vote. Sublime gameplay with incredible graphical detail and an entertaining/mad story mode makes this fighter a great return to form, and one whose buzz shouldn’t have died down as quickly as it did.
Those are the fighter games getting our votes, but what about you – who are you voting for? Tell us in the comments.
Head to Golden Joystick Awards to vote. Voting closes 22 October. The Golden Joystick Awards 2012 take place 26 October.
