Golden Joystick Awards 2012: Best Browser/Flash category – who are you voting for?

As voting for the Golden Joystick Awards 2012 enters its final weeks, we take a look at each of the individual categories. Today is the turn of Best Browser/Flash category.

Best Browser/Flash shortlist:

  • Car Town
  • CastleVille
  • Draw Something
  • Galaxy Life
  • Ghost Recon Commander
  • Hello Adventure
  • Kingdom Rush
  • Marvel Avengers Alliance
  • New Star Soccer 5
  • Raze 2
  • Reprisal
  • SimCity Social
  • Slender
  • Triple Town

Who are we voting for?

Matt Cundy (UK Editor): Slender. Atmospheric and properly creepy, proving the best scares are the simple ones.

David Houghton (UK Associate Editor): Slender. It's brilliant, terrifying, subtle and terrifying, and it understands the fundamentals of really effective horror gaming way better than most of the big budget stuff currently populating the genre seems to.

Justin Towell (UK Content Editor): I’ve never played any of these so I’ll vote for the game that has the most number of letters in its name. Marvel Avengers Alliance it is then.

Those are the browser games getting our votes, but what about you – who are you voting for? Tell us in the comments.

Head to Golden Joystick Awards to vote. Voting closes 22 October. The Golden Joystick Awards 2012 take place 26 October.

No Outernauts? I guess it IS a bit too new to count for this year, so it makes a bit of sense.

I remember when Slenderman was just a shadowy figure in a black and white picture that haunted my every waking moment. Those were some scary times. Slender? Not so much.

The only game I've played on that list is slender but I didn't vote because slender really doesn't deserve the praise it received. Seriously, why do so many people call it the scariest game ever? I don't scare easily so I'm a bit forgiving but I've enjoyed walks along the beach that were scarier than slender. Any chance of the game scaring me disappeared when it gave me plenty of warning that a potential scare was nearby. Seriously, a proper horror game should have you in constant fear so that it shouldn't have to warn you that it's going to try and make you jump because you're already wetting yourself over just moving, not the fact that there's now some static on your screen indicating a threat. On top of that the gameplay is tedious and boring as hell, I've witnessed a friend stumble around the map looking for the first piece of paper for nearly half an hour, it was so pathetically boring that the slenderman took pity on my friend and unleashed his rubbish scares on him before he had gotten the first note. Overall the game feels like the same unpolished rubbish that so many bare bones 3d games such as carnivore are. However if there was a category for "best reason to avoid youtube" then slender would get my vote.
