Goku and the other character that won't make it - Super Smash Bros. Wii U Weekly

We've talked before about our roster predictions, but this week we go in the opposite direction. That's right, we collected a list of all the characters we highly doubt will be in the game. Sure, we may really want to see Goku and Rayman in the next Smash Bros., but it isn't going to happen. Watch on as we explain why in the video, along with our favorite comments from last week's episode...

Super Smash Bros. Wii U Weekly is GamesRadar's weekly Super Smash Bros. Wii U show. Yeah, we bet you figured that out already. Come back every Wednesday for the latest news, analysis, and speculation about the upcoming brawler.

Just saying. If Goku is in the game, I am buying the system and the game no questions asked. I'm not entirely a fan of the system anyway, but that reason would be enough to make me want to give it a shot.

The reason Pac-Man is in that robot is because he's much smaller than the rest of the characters. That's the same reason they used Bad Box Art Mega Man.

I am SO glad that Mega Man is finally included. As for other third party characters: In my opinion Snake was a one-time fling for Brawl so I doubt he would return Sonic had better be in the new one. I adore Sonic! There was a mention that the developer for Wonderful 101 wanted a character in the new Smash game. So....we'll see.

Wow I'm surprised I haven't seen that from anyone else or thought of it myself. A Wonderful 101 character (probably the red one) makes perfect sense! He can have normal punches and kicks, and then has all of the hero combination moves for his unique attacks. He would work extremely well with his moveset, aesthetic, everything. It's also WiiU exlusive so it makes even more sense......

I haven't seen much of the game, but I would still be interested in someone like that. Also, I was played Super Mario Galaxy 2 and a thought occurred to me: Could Bowser Jr. be a new character?
  • CitizenWolfie - September 6, 2013 1:35 a.m.

I know it'll never happen but I'd still love Earthworm Jim to be in there at some point. He might not be a Nintendo mascot but in terms of platform game icons of the past, EWJ is always up there. Even the moves from his games match up with the SSB control scheme: B - Plasma Gun blast (or charge like Samus) Left/right+B - Head Whip Up+B - Helicopter float (also used for stage recover) Down+B - Booger Shield (not sure about this one) Final Smash - Either a Capt. Falcon style Pocket Rocket attack or a "Cow Launch"

Also, speak of Rayman Apparently, Rayman Legends went on 6-7 spot on the UK sales, not bad, but more interestingly, nearly half of those sales were all the Wii U versions of Rayman Legends, more than the other versions combined. Pretty impressive, especially since this is the UK of all places to have the Wii U version most sold.

Let's face it, the Ridley argument has been around for years. People against Ridley gather in droves saying that he's too big. On the other end of the internet battlefield are the pro-Ridley people saying the usual "look at Bowser, pikachu, Olimar, Kirby, etc". We all know Ridley could be re-sized to fit in the game, granted he'd be one of the biggest characters. Metroid desperately needs another representative and no other character even comes close as being as relevant as Ridley. In the end it depends on if Sakurai wants to take the time and effort to include him (I personally sacrifice a goat and chant in Aramaic in hopes that my prayers will be heard and he'll be included). As for what you have say about K.Rool..... f*** your logic, he's really cool and has a lot of potential.
  • shawksta - September 5, 2013 7:34 p.m.

The Ridley Argument is just too crazy Yes, F the logic, i love K. Rool and miracles can happen, Luigi F*cking Mansion got a sequel, Earthbound actually got recognized recently, ANYTHING can happen
  • GR HollanderCooper - September 5, 2013 7:37 p.m.

This time they've confirmed Ridley as a stage effect, though.
  • Welshy91 - September 5, 2013 7:41 p.m.

They didn't confirm him as a stage hazard, he cryptically alluded to him showing up. While it's possible that he's a stage hazard, he could also appear as a playable character.

As far as 3rd party character's you're most likely going to be seeing Mega Man and Sonic as the only 3rd party representatives in the game, best case scenario maybe Wonder Red from Wonderful 101 as well but sadly not much beyond that. Travis Touchdown is sadly unlikely due to his family unfriendly nature. Doesn't mean I wouldn't love to see him make it though, same deal with Bayonetta. Personally I'd love to see Simon Belmont make it in but that's also very unlikely as Nintendo isn't exactly on great terms with Konami at the moment and Konami doesn't seem to want anything to do with something Castlevania related that isn't Lords of Shadow related.
  • Frieza - September 5, 2013 10:12 p.m.

To be fair, Snake wasnt very family friendly either. He certainly wasnt as vulgar, but he was definitely one of the most violent characters ever added to the roster. The main concern I have in my mind regarding Travis is that he might not be recognizable enough to be apart of the game. Not many people actually played No More Heroes and it doesn't have a history like most of the other game franchises have. Of course, you could say that characters like the Ice Climbers are less recognizable, but they are first party characters. As shown with the currently known 3rd party characters, Nintendo only picks the most famous characters to get guest appearances in Smash Bros. Travis isn't as popular as Sonic or Mega Man, so including him wouldn't get as much praise since many people would prefer another character in his place. I think our best bet at this point would be that Travis will be released as DLC or something. Although I just hope he doesn't become an Assist Trophy...
  • Frieza - September 5, 2013 3:10 p.m.

I'm still clinging on to hope that Travis Touchdown will be included.
  • TokenGamesRadarFurry - September 5, 2013 2:36 p.m.

Wait, people actually thought Goku would be in the roster? For serious? I'd seen some comments mentioning that, but I figured those were sarcastic.
  • JarkayColt - September 5, 2013 3:49 p.m.

Yep. As this episode alludes to, I think the logic that most people clamouring for Goku seemed to apply was "OMGEEZ Namco Bandai are on board! Smash Bros. is a fighting game! Goku appears in the Dragonball fighting games made by Namco! GOKU CONFIRMED!" Which is just ridonkulous.
  • JarkayColt - September 5, 2013 2:15 p.m.

I kind of hate how so many people suggest third party characters they'd like added, especially ones that have hardly anything to do with Nintendo. Frankly, Mega Man, and potentially Sonic if he's coming back, is MORE than enough already. Anyway, I was somebody that was hoping for Ridley but you make a good point about him being a better stage hazard. There isn't just him and Samus from Metroid that could work though. For example, any of the characters from Hunters could be feasible. They're kind of minor in the great scheme of things though, so I doubt they'd ever be included as a playable character.
  • shawksta - September 5, 2013 7:06 p.m.

Its a Hype thing, let them be ridiculous. and yeah Ridley is gonna be awesome as a stage hazard though i do wonder IF there is gonna be a Boss Battle mode again, and if so, if he would be a boss. I personally wouldnt mind Anthony or any of the hunters, there were pretty cool.
