Going, going, con

Some Amecon 2007 attendees, having fun

Amecon, the UK's largest fan-run anime convention, announced way back in September that they would return for a fourth event following the success of the last convention, held in August. Fans were obviously delighted - registrations for Amecon 2008 opened less than three weeks ago, but it's already around 90% full.

Chairman Will Blewitt has urged would-be attendees to sign up quickly to avoid disappointment, adding "It's fantastic to see the fans so excited about the convention. We knew registrations were going to move quickly, but none of us expected over 1,000 sign ups in 10 days - that's truly astounding."

Held on the University of Leicester campus and with a maximum capacity of 1,300 members, Amecon is a great convention for both new and long-established fans, with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a wide variety of events - everything from video rooms and gaming events to cosplay workshops and lessons on Japanese culture. The convention committee is also currently looking into various possibilities for special guests, with interest being expressed by industry professionals associated with such major-name titles as Naruto, Tenchi Muyo and Samurai Champloo.

Amecon 2008 will be held on the weekend of 8-10 August, and weekend registration for the convention costs £45 per person. For more information or to sign up, visit www.amecon.org .
