Gillian Flynn talks David Fincher reunion on Utopia

Gone Girl screenwriter Gillian Flynn has been discussing her forthcoming reunion with David Fincher, with the author set to script the entire first series of the director’s forthcoming HBO project, Utopia .

But while fans of the duo’s latest collaboration might be licking their lips in anticipation, Flynn’s readers might be a little miffed by her announcement that the series will mean her next novel is shelved for the next twelve months…

“I was all set to start it,” says Flynn. “I was really excited. I’d pretty much signed off on Gone Girl , and I got the message from David: ‘Hey, got this TV thing. It’ll take up the next year of your life. Are you in?’”

“I was like, 'Of course I’m in. You don’t even have to tell me what it is. I’m in.’”

It was recently announced that Fincher will helm the entire first series of the new show, which is an American adaptation of the cult British drama, with the director set to dedicate the best part of a year to the task.

The series follows a group of fanatical comic-book readers, who discover that the author of a legendary title has secretly written a sequel. However, in hunting for said book, our heroes are soon launched into an adventure that strikes far closer to home than they could ever have expected…

Utopia is set to film in 2015, ahead of an air date the following year. All we need now is a role for Ben Affleck…
