GI Joe sequel gets writers

Looks like writing buddies Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are going to have one heck of a busy 2010.

On Wednesday we reported that the Zombieland screenwriters have been tapped to tackle the film script for comic book adap Deadpool .

Well, it seems these guys made more friends with Zombieland than we thought – they have also just signed a deal to ink the sequel to last year’s GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra . Seems a $100m grossing film really does open doors in Hollywood.

The original film was a definite case of “Gee, I wish I could get those two hours of my life back, Joe”, skimping where it counted (decent characters and plotting), so we’re excited at the prospect of a sequel mapped out by this creative duo.

Both Sienna Miller and Channing Tatum are contracted to return for the second bout of military hyper-action. And with the first film’s cliff-hanger ending, expect the sequel to pick up right where things left off.

Excited? Fan of the first? Give us a yell below...
