George Lucas is still heavily involved in Star Wars: Episode VII

When Disney bought the rights to the Star Wars franchise and placed J.J. Abrams at the helm of Episode VII , it was unclear whether George Lucas would still be actively connected to the series.

However, according to his son Jett, Lucas had long been working on a new series of Star Wars films, and remains heavily involved in the next outing in the galaxy far, far away.

“We knew probably a year prior [ to the sale to Disney ], he had started writing and researching, starting his whole little process,” says Lucas Jr. in an interview with Flicks And The City .

“He’s constantly talking to J.J.,” he continues. “Obviously J.J. was handpicked. [ Lucas ] is there to guide, whenever, he’ll help where he can. At the same time, he wants to let it go and become its new generation.”

Sounds like he’s on call as a consultant should Abrams need any advice, which makes sense, given that the entire universe is his baby. Although don’t necessarily expect Abrams to be talked into a Jar-Jar revival any time soon…

Star Wars: Episode VII
will arrive in cinemas in 2015.
