Gears of War Ultimate to launch with first two games on February 16

If you’ve been thinking about buying the original Gears of War games to get caught up before the release of Gears of War 3, you might want to wait until February 16. That’s when ‘Gears of War Ultimate,’ a bundle that will include both Gears of War 1 and 2, is scheduled to release.

News of the upcoming value pack comes from a GameStop representative who told CVG that the bundle is expected to be priced at $29.99. The compilation was briefly listed on GameStop’s online catalogue over the holiday break, but has been removed since then. Unfortunately, the representative could not confirm whether or not the compilation would include previously released DLC for the two titles.

Speaking to IGN, Microsoft recently confirmed that the bundle will be coming, but clarified that Gears of War Ultimate will “not involve Gears of War 3 or the beta.” Gears of War 3 was scheduled to release in April this year, but the launch date has been pushed back further to the fourth quarter of 2011.

If this had been released a month ago I probably would have bought it. But after borrowing a friend's copy of Gears of War I've decided against buying the games as I found it to be somewhat boring to play.

Ah, I see. Epic are trying to make more money off the back of the Gears of War 3 hype. As GOW3 releases, the people who bought the 'Ultimate' edition (poor sods) will realise that their collection is incomplete, and will rush out in their droves to buy the latest game in the series. Classy.
