Gears of War 3 singleplayer campaign leaked

A pre-release build of Gears of War 3, playable but in a very visible state of incompleteness, has been leaked onto the internet via torrent. The build, accessible only on Xbox 360s which have been modified to play JTAG developer code, was released over the weekend and has already been the subject of aggressive preventative measures by Microsoft, which is currently working with law enforcement and internal security teams to track down the source of the leak.

Microsoft has released a statement stating that the leaked game content “is not from a final build and is not representative of” the Gears of War 3 that will release in September. YouTube has been flooded with gameplay videos verifying this: glitches and development placeholders abound, though the basic graphics and gameplay mechanics do look to represent Gears of War 3 inasmuch as they depict a gritty third-person shooter in which unfeasibly huge men hide behind crumbling architecture and shoot creatures in the face.

It's hard to imagine the leak will hurt sales much: with the abundance of bugs and artifacts on show, the leak's closer in appearance to a blurry bootleg than a legitimate pre-release circulation of a finished product. Still, if you were to Google thoroughly enough, you might uncover some decent story spoilers – so for the two or three of you who play Gears for the storyline, stay away from the internet until September. The rest of you, the new Horde 2.0 mode isn't going anywhere.

Fucking bullshit. I got Gears 2 spoiled for me by some asshole online, now I have to be on the watch until September. Grahhh *bams head on table until blood pressure comes down* And I'm part of the group of people that play Gears for the story. I enjoy the multiplayer just fine, but the story is what cinches it for me.

@QLev, I would be proud to add myself to your ever growing list of people who enjoy the gears story, guess ill just have to hold back searching gears of war 3 for a while...however tempting it is
  • jackthemenace - July 5, 2011 11:25 p.m.

@db1331- I like the way you mock. In all seriousness, it's a shame someone would do this. And as much as I'll defend groups like anonymous, these guys haven't done anything that benefit anyone except the people too lazy to play the games, or the people who want to be able to "tell" us in advance that Halo 4 or Modern Warfare 3 is going to be better than Gears 3. And, it's still theft. I think it's pathetic, really, that someone would go to all this length, just to try and spoil the story for everyone. Oh, and Seventh for Story player. I'm terrible online.

I'm also one of the people who play it for the story. Definitely more than a few now
  • QLev - July 5, 2011 10:09 p.m.

Well by-golly they under-estimated us. I count 5 whole people, including myself, that are in it for the story.
  • chrisda - July 5, 2011 9:54 p.m.

Yeah i know a crap ton of console pirates
  • SeriousSean - July 5, 2011 9:38 p.m.

Hey Cliffy, let's hear you bitch about piracy on the PC now! Ahahahaha!
  • kor2disturbed - July 5, 2011 9:22 p.m.

You know whats funny I never cared for horde...I am one of the few people who didn't like it I play the campaign beat it and then play multiplayer until it gets old, I honestly only played horde twice in gears 2.
  • EwoksTasteLikeChicken - July 5, 2011 8:28 p.m.

I must be one of those two or three, since I love the Gears story. I feel that the multiplayer is broken, and if I want something like Horde, I'll just play Halo or Left 4 Dead.

@Gex4212 I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. Blame the internet for not allowing us to display sarcasm. On Topic- Isn't this pretty much what happened to MW3 a few months back?
  • Yarnboy - July 5, 2011 7:54 p.m.

I must be the third then. Did not care much for the story in part 1, but the story in 2 promised some nice twists (even though a lot of them were just promises for part 3).
  • Gex4212 - July 5, 2011 7:52 p.m.

@db1331 I cant tell if your being sarcastic or serious. But piracy is all over the place...just not as big as PC. The DS was practically a mobile pirate console. The R4DS opened the doors for pirated games on DS. The PSP is the same as well.360 has always been played with pirated games due to flashing your HDD. The Wii was also subjected to it. PS3 was the latest .

Well I guess I'm one of those three as well. I wonder how many stupid kids will complain about their xbox's being banned when they play this. Hopefully I won't have to worry about avoiding too many spoilers over the next 3 months. Just finished reading Anvil Gate and I'm looking forward to the campaign of Gears of War 3.
  • sourjams - July 5, 2011 7:46 p.m.

Implying PC gamers are the only ones that pirate
  • mastersword369 - July 5, 2011 7:44 p.m.

... I'm one of those three...
  • db1331 - July 5, 2011 7:41 p.m.

That's impossible, because everyone knows only PC players pirate games. That's why all the big companies pack in all that DRM and don't bother giving us DLC, since we would all just steal it anyway.
