Tomb Raider: Legend
Also known as: Tomb Raider Legend [UK]
The first lady of adventure returns to our good graces in a memorable comeback caper.
Words: Benjamin Turner, GamesRadar US
Before the sexy, adventurous Lara Croft debuted in 1996's Tomb Raider, female video game leads were rarer than Sega games on Nintendo systems. Ten years later, both phenomena are quite common. Unfortunately, the world's most famous game grrrl fell on hard times thanks to a deluge of increasingly terrible sequels. In fact, after 2003's awful Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, many felt the series was beyond redemption.
But publisher Eidos did something smart, calling in well-regarded developer Crystal Dynamics to take over the franchise. The first fruit of this new arrangement is now upon us in the form of Tomb Raider Legend. More than just a franchise reboot, Legend is a remarkably enjoyable game in its own right, an adventure that reminds us why we care about this Croft chick in the first place.
