You still swing by pushing forward and back on the analog stick, but now ball spin, fade and draw are controlled by the C-stick, so you have to be coordinated enough to manipulate two analog sticks at the same time. Putting is changed significantly, now controlled by the analog stick, so you judge the speed of the shot as you would do any shot on the fairway.
Even for the advanced player it’s all a bit too fiddly and a real challenge if you want to do it accurately. It feels irritatingly been bolted on, not to mention unnecessary, as you can still get around the course under par without using fade or draw. The two tweaks haven’t had a ruinous effect. Unless you really want record low scores you can ignore the C-stick and still play a very good game of golf, as this is one sports game that EA perfected a long time ago.
