I cannot stress the importance enough of using the Heart Piece checklist at the bottom of the guide every time you get one, by the end of the game you can be sure you collected them all but find yourself missing one and having no idea which. If you've been checking them off as you go, you'll know exactly where to look. ____________________________________________________________________________ |~\/~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~\/~| | || CT.TS || Table of Contents || CT.TS || | |_||_______||____________________________________________________||_______||_| |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | - When the game begins, you are a young Link, lying in bed and greeted by a Fairy. The instant Link wakes up you are able to move around and control him. Acquaint yourself with the controls and leave Link's house. As you leave, the young elf girl Saria comes running and greets you. Approach her and press the A button to speak, listen to what she has to say. Note that all directions I will use, such as east, west, north, south etc will pertain to those directions on the map in the corner of your screen. Head west of where you start and you will come across a ramp leading up to a higher level. Go up the ramp to reach a kind of fenced in area. What you want to do is navigate between the fences, on the other side there is a little crawlspace in the wall for Link to crawl into. Simply approach the crawlspace and press the A button to enter it. Hold up on the analog stick and Link will crawl along to the other side. You can read the sign directly ahead of you, it will give you all sorts of helpful tips on how to control young Link. What you need to be careful of here is a large boulder, it is rolling around this area and there's not much you can do to stop it, hiding in the little alcoves is about your only chance to avoid it. Start running east and then make a right, then a left and then a right. This will lead you to a large chest which contains the KOKIRI SWORD. Open up the menu and select the sword from the equipment section, if it appears in Link's hand that that means you have equipped it correctly. Now you can press the B button whenever you wish to swing the sword and attack your foes. Press the A button after standing stationary for a moment and you can put the sword away. Also if you hold the B button for a couple of seconds and release you can perform a spinning sword slash. Return to the Kokiri Forest back through the crawlspace that you came in from now. With the sword in your possession you can begin to gather Rupees, enough to purchase the shield. You won't be let out of the village unless you have a sword and shield so you might as well start collecting. Here are the best ways to accumulate the 40 Rupees that you will need. First of all, in the area where you got the sword you should have found a couple of blue Rupees, these are worth five Rupees apiece. Slashing plants will often new you maybe one Rupee or so, but there are better ways. Head back past the fenced area and run down the sloping path again, into the house at the bottom, the one beside that circle of rocks. There are four treasure chests in this room, open them all to acquire a BLUE RUPEE, a RECOVERY HEART, a BLUE RUPEE, and a pathetic GREEN RUPEE. Now you'll be at approximately 25 Rupees, we're getting there. Directly east of this house you will notice a few square shaped platforms sticking up out of the water. Run toward these platforms, as you come to the edge Link will automatically jump in the direction you are moving assuming you are running. Jump across all three of these platforms on the water to get a Blue Rupee. Head back to Link's house, east of it is a building with a ramp that you can go up to reach the top of the house. It leads to a bridge, cross this bridge and the other bridge to reach a raised platform with a girl and a Blue Rupee on it. At this point you had might as well just run around the village slashing all the shrubs and gradually collecting Rupees until you have acquired 40 of them. Once you do have 40 Rupees, then your destination will be the shop. It has kind of an orange roof and is located on the northeast side where all of the water is. Inside the shop, speak with the shopkeeper. Use the analog stick to move left and right and make your selections. You'll find the Deku Shield located on the lower shelf on the right side, select it and purchase it if you have 40 Rupees. You just bought yourself a DEKU SHIELD! Be sure to equip it in the menu, after that you can use it with the R button. If you press and hold the L/Z button while defending with the shield, then you can move around while using it. Now make sure that both your sword and shield are equipped and make your way east. Speak with the little elf guy blocking the path and he will allow you to pass if you are properly equipped. Pass by Mido and begin your trek down the path. As you do suddenly something happens, some evil plants pop out of the ground. If you hold the L/Z button you can approach the enemy carefully while you target it and swing your sword, it should go down with a single strike. You will most likely acquire a Deku Stick after defeating this enemy. A Deku Stick has many uses, it can be used as a weapon instead of your sword, but that's really not what it's for, it's likely to beak that way. Just keep it in your inventory and you'll use it later. Proceed to defeat the other plant enemies before you go any further. Approach the great Deku Tree and listen to what it has to say. The great Deku Tree opens its mouth wide to reveal and entrance. It's now time to go inside the tree and break the curse. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______ (, / ) / / _/___ /_ +-- (_/___ / EKU TREE -------------------------------------------- 01.02 --+ The plants inside this dungeon are a little nastier than the ones you have already fought. Instead of sitting there and taking the punishment, these ones are going to lunge at you. Fortunately they cannot go any further than their stems will let them. Keep your distance and attack with your sword. These enemies will drop Deku Nuts, another new item which you can use to stun your enemies. Note that at any point when you hear Navi call "Hey!" to you, you can listen to her by pressing C-up. Sometimes if she has something really important to say, she'll just say it anyway without having you press a button. Note there is a ladder on the wall here to the left of you when you come in from the main entrance. Across at the far end there is also a vine growing on the wall. Both can be climbed to bring you up to the ledge above, take either one it doesn't matter. If you went up the ladder then you will have to run around and jump across to the top of the vines. From there proceed along the path as it gradually slopes up. At the top of the path you will come across a large chest. Open this chest to acquire the DUNGEON MAP. Most if not all dungeons have a Dungeon Map which fills up the map in your menu to show the entire dungeon and hopefully give you a better idea of where to go. Since you cannot get up the vine wall beside the chest yet, that means you had might as well continue along the path you are currently on. Soon enough you will come to a door, Navi gives you a little tutorial on how to open doors, it's really about as easy as it sounds. Opening a door isn't particularly difficult. Walk up to the door and press A to go through it. When you do you will see something in the middle of the room. It keeps popping out of the ground over and over again, firing Deku Nuts at you. When you try to go close to it and attack with your sword it just pops back down into the ground again. The solution? Stand a little ways back, far enough so that it isn't afraid to pop up, and hold the R button to bring up your shield. Deflect the nut back at the enemy, that is how you defeat him. The easiest way to aim it of course is to hold the L/Z button to target him, and then defend with your shield. After doing this then chase the little guy down, when you corner him he will speak to you. Grab the Recovery Heart that the Deku Scrub drops and proceed through the door that just opened, not the one you came through. There is a floating platform in this room, you can try to jump to it and jump across. Once you land on it the platform will break, it doesn't matter if you fall though, simply climb up the vines on the other side. They lead up to a large treasure chest, open it to find out what's inside. The item inside turns out to be the FAIRY SLINGSHOT. The Fairy Slingshot fires Deku Seeds, you are given 30 of them automatically to start with and you can find many more just by slashing grass and stuff. Equip the Fairy Slingshot to one of the C buttons. To pull back, hold that C button and then let go of it when you're ready to fire. You can aim while holding the button. Now you may be wondering how to get back across to the door since there aren't any vines to climb, The solution is simple, now that you have the Fairy Slingshot, use it and take aim at the ladder above the door you came in from. When you hit the ladder it falls down. Before going back to the door note the vine beside this chest that you can climb up, it leads to a small hidden room with a treasure chest containing RECOVERY HEART. After getting it then you can leave. Return to the main room, the large inner trunk area and go back to the chest where you got the Dungeon Map, the chest beside those vines on the wall. Before you couldn't climb up the vines because those damn Skulltula things would knock you off. Now you can safely stand below them on the ground and fire upward using your Fairy Slingshot. You can aim manually if you want, but it's even easier to aim by targeting the enemy using the L/Z button and then simply tapping the C button to fire directly at it. It should only take a single hit to drop these enemies, though you may have to aim manually to hit the third one higher up. Once they have been dispatched then you can safely begin to climb this wall. When you reach the top of the vines make a right and drop down onto the walkway. Directly in front of you is a larger Skulltula. These ones are a bit more difficult to defeat. What you have to do is wait for them to drop down. After a moment they will spin around and reveal their back, this is your chance to strike. After striking the Skulltula will go up in the air again, wait for it to descend and do the same thing. The second hit will kill the enemy. Continue along this path past where you fought the enemy and go through the first door you come to. When you enter the room take a look to your right, there is a large button on the floor. When you step on this button three platforms rise up out of the ground in the middle of the room. They won't stay up forever it is only temporary so you have to move quickly. Jump to the first platform, then the one on your left, then the one on your right and finally from that one to the ledge. There is a large treasure chest here and inside it you will find the COMPASS for the dungeon. The Compass takes your map and places an indicator on it which shows your exact position and the direction you are facing, very helpful and will make it a lot easier for me to refer to directions like east and west. Return to the entrance of the room and press the button again. This time jump from the first platform, to the second platform and then jump south to the other ledge. Open the small chest here to get a RECOVERY HEART from it. Notice the Skulltula on the wall, it is different from any other you have faced so far, it's more... golden than the rest. This is a special Skulltula called a Gold Skulltula. To defeat it all you have to do is swing your sword, it doesn't have a protective faceplate like the other. When the enemy has been defeated it will drop an item. This is GOLD SKULLTULA [001] token that proves you killed it. The reason I list the number beside it is so you can use the checklist at the bottom of this guide and note that you have number 001 already, it will really help out later to know which ones you have and which ones you don't. There are exactly 100 Gold Skulltula throughout the game and something good will happen if you kill them all, so we'll work toward that as we progress along with the walkthrough. Now head back to the door. You will notice the door is still locked and you cannot leave. What you are going to need here is a Deku Stick, if you don’t have one then drop down and kill the plant enemy, it is sure to drop one. Set the Deku Stick to one of your C buttons and whip it out so that you are holding it. Walk up to the torch which is on fire and it will light the Deku Stick. Now run quickly over to the other torch and light it using the stick, you don't have to swing the stick, just approach the torch. After it is lit, you can pick the stick away before it burns out entirely by pressing the B button. Now that the door is no longer locked, leave this room. On your left there is another large Skulltula to kill. Approach it and eliminate it. Now what you have to do is jump down all the way to the very bottom, remember that spider web in the middle of the room when you came in? Well it's time to break that web, and you break it by falling from such a huge distance down on top of it right in the middle. If you land on the side of the web you'll be fine but it won't break. I find that if you run to the edge, jump and let go of the analog stick immediately after jumping, then usually that's just about perfect. There should be a low ledge there beside you when you land, grab hold of the edge and climb up. Defeat the plant monster here that is in your way. The first thing you are going to want to do is take out your Fairy Slingshot and aim up at the Gold Skulltula on the vine beside you. Fire two shots at it to kill the monster and then climb up the vine to grab the GOLD SKULLTULA [002]. Now get in the water and find an area, right next to the large button on the higher ledge, that you can stand on while in the water, the platform is only slightly submerged underwater. While standing on it look over toward the water gate and note the Gold Skulltula crawling around on it. Take out your handy dandy Fairy Slingshot and fire two shots at the enemy to kill it. Now jump from the ledge with the big button toward the water gate and grab the GOLD SKULLTULA [003] in mid air. Climb back up onto the platform with the big button and step on the big button. This will ignite the torch behind you. Open the chest beside the torch to get a RECOVERY HEART and then whip out one of your many Deku Sticks. Set the stick on fire and jump into the water, but not the deep water, jump onto the raised area which is only slightly submerged. From there you can jump to the lower ledge without ever having to actually swim. When you start swimming the Deku Stick obviously gets extinguished. Once you reach this lower platform with the burning Deku Stick, run up to the web and the fire will burn it away, now go through the door. Once again there is a damn little Deku Scrub in this room. What you have to do of course is target the enemy with the L/Z button and then hold the R button to use your shield and deflect the Deku Nut back at him. The scrub tells you that you cannot defeat the brothers unless you punish them in the right order. The correct order is 2, 3, 1. Keep that in mind or just look back at this sentence I guess. The scrub will drop a Recovery Heart for you to pick up but you still can't get out of this room. Here's the trick, equip your Fairy Slingshot and aim up at the eyeball above the door. Fire away at the eyeball and the bars will disappear, the door will be unlocked. In this next room there is a rolling spike log thing that you are going to have to avoid somehow. Navi gives you a tip right at the beginning, you can dive underwater while swimming if you press the A button. Jump into the water and dive under, take a look along the south wall to find an underwater button and when you swim up to it, the button is automatically pressed. Now with the button pressed the water level in this room drops and the moving platform is lower than the rolling spike log. Return to the entrance and jump down onto the platform, you will be able to move safely underneath it and jump to the ledge on the other side. There is a Skulltula here, not a gold one, I'm sure you remember how to kill it, simply strike when the enemy's back is turned. Notice the kind of depression in the ground and a block on the side. If you run up to this block and press the A button you can grab hold of it from any side if you are standing stationary. If you are moving toward the block when you press A beside it, then you will climb up on top, like Navi says just keep an eye on the green action button at the top of the screen, it tells you what it will do. Push the block along this depression until it can't move any further and then climb on top. Climb from there up to the door and proceed through it. The doors in this room are locked and there are some dangerous plants growing about. Don't bother killing them all, they just respawn. Your goal is to equip a Deku Stick and light it on fire, then use it to light all of the torches in this room. This will unlock both doors, head north now. Immediately as you enter this room a Skulltula drops down in front of you, be ready to strike and defend yourself. Upon reaching the centre of this room, three new enemies drop down. These will be the first enemies you have fought which can actually move freely. Their weak point is the eyes on the front, I find it is easiest to simply fight these enemies without using the targeting system, it will allow you to move about easier. Once the three of them have been defeated then equip another Deku Stick and light it on fire. Use the fiery Deku Stick to burn the spider web on the east side. It will reveal a path to a crawlspace, approach the crawlspace and enter it using the A button. When you pop out you'll notice that you have actually been here before, it's the large room with all the water but you're up on top of a platform that you could not reach before. The first thing you are going to want to do is locate the box that you can push along the depression in the ground. Push it over the edge down into the water, this way you can always get back up here quickly instead of going the long way around like you just did. Jump down from here to the area with the large button. Light another Deku Stick and then jump from this platform directly onto the box you just pushed and then from that box up onto the platform. With your Deku Stick on fire, stand on top of the spider web and press the C button that corresponds to the Deku Stick to swing it and set the web on fire. Get ready for a big free fall down a level. There are a number of hearts here in the water so you should be okay in terms of health. This is exactly what the Deku Scrub was talking about, there are three of them here and you have to catch them in the correct order. That order was 2, 3, 1, from left to right. So basically start by deflecting the Deku Nut back at the scrub in the middle, then the one on the far right and then the one on the far left. Catch him and he'll speak with you. The scrub now reveals the secret of Queen Gohma, which as you probably guessed, is the boss. You have to strike while she is stunned, doesn't sound too complicated. Grab the Recovery Heart that the scrub leaves behind and enter the next room. Prepare yourself for the first boss battle, the battle against Queen Gohma, the enemy that the Deku Scrub was talking about. When the door slams shut, equip your Fairy Slingshot and aim it up at the ceiling, once you make eye contact the battle against Parasitic Armored Arachnid, Gohma will begin. At the very beginning of the battle, Gohma will pretty much be wandering around doing her own this, this is your chance to attack. Hold the L/Z button to target her eye and tap the Fairy Slingshot button to fire a Deku Seed right into it, stunning the boss. While the boss is stunned, run up to her and begin to slash her with your sword as many times as you possibly can. After this the boss will begin climbing up the wall and shimmy onto the roof. After a few seconds she will drop three eggs down directly below where she is on the ceiling. You now have a small amount of time to go and strike those eggs, one single hit will kill them however if you are not fast enough they will hatch into those little one eyed enemies you fought before. Wait another few seconds and Gohma will drop down again, and the pattern begins anew. Target Gohma's eye and let her get close, while she is up on her back legs and the eye is red that is the best time to fire. It should take no more than three or four sessions of stunning the boss and attacking with your sword. When the battle is over there is a full HEART CONTAINER [001]. Your hearts have now been increased to four, that's pretty nice. Step onto the blue portal and it will automatically warp you outside of the Deku Tree. Listen to everything the Deku Tree has to say because it's all very important. After the tree speaks it gives you the KOKIRI'S EMERALD. Return to Kokiri Forest but there really isn't much to do there at all, it's time to depart for Hyrule Field. Simply run all the way west to the exit of the forest, a scene will take place between Link and Saria. She will give Link the FAIRY OCARINA. _____________________________________________________________________________ ____ ___) (, / / /---/ ) / / +-- (_/ (__ YRULE FIELD ------------------------------------------ 01.03 --+ When you go to leave you will be interrupted by a nosy owl. He seems to know a lot about what you're going to do. Listen to what the owl says to get a basic handle on what's to come. After listening to the owl do the following: turn around 180 degrees and head back toward the entrance to the Kokiri Forest. Stand outside the entrance and do absolutely nothing. Notice the light level is changing, wait until it gets completely dark and turns to night. You will know when this happens when you hear a howling sounds and suddenly zombies appear out of the ground. Quickly run into the Kokiri Forest at this point. Your destination is the southwest corner, go up the slope that lead you before to the fenced are and the crawlspace, but this time ignore the fences and go around behind the house up here to find a Gold Skulltula. It shouldn't be too difficult to defeat at all, the difficulty you may find comes in actually acquiring the token. It's easier than you think though, just use the jump attack. To use the jump attack hold down the L/Z button and press the A button, Link will jump into the air a little and it should give him just enough height to grab hold of that GOLD SKULLTULA [004]. This enemy only appears in the village at night which is why you could not come here and get it before. Now that you have the token it's time to leave here once again. Hyrule Field is absolutely enormous so you might just want to run around and explore for awhile, note the different enemies and be careful at night of course when the zombies attack. At some point during the day, make your way northeast to reach the Hyrule Market, your primary destination. ______________________________________________________________________________ __ __) (, /| /| / | / | +-- (_/ |/ |_ ARKET ---------------------------------------------- 01.04 --+ Right as you enter you will see a door beside you, head through that door to reach a room with all sorts of pots in it, this is a great place to gather many Rupees and you can leave the room and re-enter as many times as you like. When you're satisfied with everything you have acquired then it's time to leave this room and proceed into the actual market. There is all sorts of activity going on through here it's hard to decide what to do first. Many of the places here are closed up anyway so that eliminates a lot of the possibilities. Let's take a look at the shops first, find the building with the scary man face above it, this is the Bazaar. The only noteworthy thing they sell here is the new shield however don't bother purchasing it at all, you're going to get the same shield soon enough, and for free. Leave the shop and head next door, this is the Potion Shop, another shop which sells absolutely nothing you should be spending your money on at this point. Locate the Shooting Gallery, it is the house in the Hyrule Market with the large target symbol and arrow through it, this place should not be too difficult to find. What you have to do in the Shooting Gallery is pay 20 Rupees in order to begin the game. You are given fifteen shots and you have to shoot down ten Rupees. If you shoot down all ten you will get a special prize. Each Rupee appears in the exact same position every single time: 1 - The first one appears directly in the middle of the screen, a green one. It is not moving so simply fire at it head on when you see it. 2 - The second one is a blue one that moves in from the left side of the screen toward the middle and stays just a bit to the left. 3 - The third one comes in from the right side of the screen toward the middle and stays just a bit right of the middle, a blue one. 4 - The fourth is a green one which pops out of the middle, up into the air and then drops down, hit it at the highest point of the jump. 5 - The next one is a blue Rupees similar to the second one however it comes from the left near the middle at the same time as number six 6 - Comes in at the same time as number five but from the right side, you have to hit both of them before they both exit the screen. 7 - This is a red Rupee which moves at a moderate speed from the right side of the screen to the left side of the screen, it will not stop. 8 - This is a red Rupee which moves at a moderate speed from the right side of the screen to the left side of the screen, it will not stop. 9 - This is another red one which this time moves from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen, quite quickly so aim fast. 10 - This is another red one which this time moves from the left side of the screen to the right side of the screen, quite quickly so aim fast. If you manage to hit eight out of the ten targets then you will be rewarded with a free game, if you manage to hit ten out of the ten targets then you will be rewarded with a BULLET BAG for your Deku Seeds, this allows you to carry 40 Deku Seeds for use with your Fairy Slingshot instead of 30, and is quite a helpful item. Be sure to win this item as it will likely help out. Leave this place and speak with the disgustingly ugly lady in front of the Potion Shop wearing the blue dress, if she won't shut up about her dog then you have the right person. Head down the alley on the opposite side as the entrance you came in from to reach the Hyrule Castle area. Time proceeds normally here so your only goal is to wait until it is night time. Enter the Market again to find that most people are gone and there are a bunch of dogs running around. Your goal is to find the fat lady's dog. It may be randomized but for me, her dog was the white dog just left of the main entrance to town, left when you are looking directly at the entrance. It was running around just below that person in the window. Once you find the dog you have to head down into the Back Alley. The Back Alley is located just to the right when you're facing the main entrance. Enter the first door with the dog following you (to get the dog to follow you simply walk up to it) and inside this house is the lady. Assuming you brought her the correct dog she will reward you with your first PIECE OF HEART [001]. Just like in the other Zelda games, four Pieces of Heart will make up one Heart Container and increase your maximum number of hearts by one. Be sure to note that you have acquired this one on the checklist and all other ones you find in the future. What you have to do now is head back to the Hyrule Castle area once again. ______________________________________________________________________________ ____ ___) (, / / /---/ ) / / +-- (_/ (__ YRULE CASTLE ----------------------------------------- 01.05 --+ Now we are going to actually head for the castle itself. Start by moving forward and listening to what the owl has to say, sometimes it's important but most of the time, it really isn't. Note the large tree directly in front of you, what you want to do is run up to this tree and hit the A button to roll right into it. You'll here the secret noise and a Gold Skulltula will drop out of the tree. Defeat the enemy and pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [005]. Speak to the young girl beside you, next to the vine. Twice if need be. She should give you the WEIRD EGG. This item's purpose will become clear soon enough, for now just hang onto it. Begin climbing the vine beside Malon, our goal is going to be to get into the castle without alerting the guards. Stand at the top of the vines and just let the game sit through the night (game night I mean, not all night.) In the morning when you hear the rooster, the egg you have will hatch into a CHICKEN. Indeed, the miracle of life. When you reach the bridge leading over toward the castle, note the ladder coming up that you can climb down. Since there is a patrol at the end of the bridge you are going to want to climb down this ladder. Head through the door at the very bottom. Begin trekking up the path until you see two guards, at a reasonable distance start running up the slope in front of them to avoid detection, but be careful of the lone guard at the top, be sure to stay behind him. From here you can pretty safely head toward the stairs leading up to the castle, but don't actually approach them since they are heavily guarded. Instead note the odd rock wall to the left of the entrance, you can in fact climb up this wall. At the top make your way past the Gossip Stone and jump down toward the moat. If you jump into the water near the top you will just keep getting Rupees as you swim along down the moat. Get out at the corner where the ground kind of slopes upward. At the end of the path you will find Malon's father there, sleeping on the job. Since you can't wake him up by speaking to him, stand beside him and equip the Chicken. Press the C button which corresponds to the Chicken and he'll be up and about in no time. After Talon runs off like a madman, notice like usual that these boxes are in a little area of depressed ground. You goal is to grab hold of these boxes and push them off the ledge, don't worry about where because there's only on possible place you can push them, where the edge is open beside the small waterfall. Grab both blocks and push them off this ledge and that will allow you to get up close to the waterfall. After you've pushed one block over the edge and the other block on top of the other one you can climb up on top of it and jump toward the waterfall. Press the A button to crawl in through the crawlspace, note that you must go during the day, night will not work here. Our goal is going to be to sneak past all the guards in this courtyard area and reach the end without being thrown out of here, and you're going to do it correctly because I'm going to help you. In the first area there is a square hedge and a guard who circles around it. The solution to this is simple, when he is moving away from you with his back turned follow him, and then when he goes up the side you proceed to the next area. The second area has two guards patrolling the fountains, the second one likes to move very quickly. Follow the first guard across and then since the second guard moves so fast, you might have to follow the first guard up in between the fountains as well, and then go left and around to reach the third area. Here you will note that there are many Rupees in the centre, well not that many, and they are not worth getting. You can pick up that many Rupees in a single session of pot smashing. There is a Red Rupee among them yes but still not worth it. Go up the little steps and then grab onto the ledge above. Walk carefully toward the middle and then cross over on the beam that goes to the other side. The camera may be a bit awkward so move very slowly across and if you drop, you'll most likely grab onto the ledge. The fourth area is a statue with two guards patrolling around it. Wait for the seconds guard to pass and move along right behind them as you normally would for a single guard. They don't move at the exact same speed which could be a problem but as long as they are reasonably close together then you should be able to get to the other side just fine. The final area is of course the most difficult, you start at the bottom, hidden behind a hedge and have to make your way up past two fast moving guards that are circling the centre hedge. Wait until they have both gone past on your left and then run up the left side. Head for the top when the coast is clear and then go down the path toward the castle to reach the inner garden. Equip the Fairy Slingshot and aim right at the window, when you fire it a Red Rupee will pop out, that's worth twenty! You should also note the pictures behind the window. Take aim and fire at the window on the left, your bonus isn't going to be quite as beneficial here. When you're ready then approach Princess Zelda and speak with her. After a long speech she gives you a letter, ZELDA'S LETTER. Leave Zelda and speak with the person at the exit, Impa. She will teach you our first song for the Fairy Ocarina. It's time to go after the next two Spiritual Stones. Impa tells you that the Spiritual Stone of Fire is located on Death Mountain, home of the Gorons so that will soon be your destination. Before that there are a few other places which we are going to visit so prepare yourself accordingly. Our next destination will be the Lon Lon Ranch, home of Talon and Malon. Note the large circle in the middle of the Hyrule Field map, this is Lon Lon Ranch. Head there now and find the sloping path that leads you up into the ranch. ______________________________________________________________________________ _ ___/__) (, / / +-- (_____ ON LON RANCH -------------------------------------------- 01.06 --+ Upon arriving in Lon Lon Ranch what you want to do is go through the door with the sign over top of it. There are all sorts of chickens running around in this room and it is going to be the focus of a minigame. Speak with Talon and for ten Rupees you can challenge yourself to try to find all three Super Cuccos in thirty seconds. Basically it's just a matter of lifting chickens and throwing them out of the way until you pick up the correct ones. Try to keep your eye on one of the Super Cuccos at the beginning and then just lifting chickens randomly to find the other two. After you have located all three of the Super Cuccos, Talon will reward your with some LON LON MILK. It's not actually the milk that is worth it but rather the EMPTY BOTTLE that you have after the milk is gone. Empty bottles are rare and special items that you can keep virtually any kind of liquid or other items in so the more you have the better. Now leave this house and head up toward the fence. You should be in an area where the horses are running around, turn to your left and look for a tree, it's the only tree you'll see so it can't be very hard to locate. Just like you did at the Hyrule Castle, run up to the tree and roll into it to hear the secret sound and reveal a Gold Skulltula. Defeat this enemy to acquire yet another GOLD SKULLTULA [006]. Make your way to the far southwest side to find a large stone tower of sorts. Enter into this tower and you will come across some cows and not much else. Notice all the boxes that you can move however. What you want to do is reveal the corner which is blocked by a box. Let's take it from the perspective of just entering the room facing away from the door. The upper right most box, the one beside the cow should be pulled down toward the door. After one pull go to the other side and push it down. Now grab hold of the box in the upper left corner, the corner you want to access and pull it to the right. You should now be able to get to the crawlspace. Press the A button to get into the crawlspace and at the end you will find a PIECE OF HEART [002]. Now leave the tower. Enter into the middle of the Ranch, there is an entrance on the north side. Speak with Malon and equip your Fairy Ocarina. Speak with her again and she'll say something about the song. Use your Ocarina and she should teach you the notes to the song, play along with it and you will learn EPONA'S SONG. Now that you have Epona's Song there is something special you can do, not just now, but whenever the hell you want. Head back to the entrance of Lon Lon Ranch but instead of going into the house with Talon, go into the one on the other side. Notice there are many cows in this room. Take an Empty Bottle and head over to a cow. Stand beside it and whip out the Fairy Ocarina. Play Epona's Song, up, left, right, up left, right and the cow will give you free Lon Lon Milk, as will other cows. That's a pretty nice gesture. There's one more thing to do here, leave Lon Lon Ranch and stand around until you hear the howling of night time. Re-enter Lon Lon Ranch at night. Make your way all the way around to the south side of the ranch, note on your map that there is kind of a little feeding area just along the edge of the horse fence, not the outer wall of the ranch, the inner fence. What you want to do is go around behind this little area and there you will find another GOLD SKULLTULA [007], be sure to defeat it and add another token to the collection. Next what you have to do is return to the Kokiri Forest, when you first enter the forest make a left and climb up onto the ledge. Note the wall here which is covered in vines, you need to climb up this wall and follow the path which leads you to The Lost Woods. There something in here you need to get. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______) (, / / ) / +-- (_/ HE LOST WOODS ----------------------------------------------- 1.07 --+ When you get into The Lost Woods there are three paths to take not counting the one you just came from. Move toward the right one and notice the music gets louder, head through this one. Note the object here hanging out of the tree, some kind of circle. Whip out your trust Fairy Slingshot and fire a seed at the exact centre of the circle, you'll know you hit the centre if the number 100 pops up. Hit it exactly three times in a row and something good will happen, a Deku Scrub will come out and give you another BULLET BAG, this time upgrading the amount of seeds you can carry from 40 to 50. Position yourself as if you had just entered this area, facing the tree the next path you want to take is the one leading to the left. At this point you will be interrupted by that damn owl once again. Listen to what he has to say. The path you want to take is the path on the right, the one to the right of the centre path that looks all fancy. The music will get louder as you approach it so you'll know you are going in the right direction. Make a left in this next area and it will take you to another fork, a 4-way split here. Continue straight in the same direction you have been going and then make a left when you get to the next fork after this one. Finally make a right here at this last one and soon you will reach the Sacred Forest Meadow. ______________________________________________________________________________ __ (__/ ) / ) / +-- (_/ ACRED FOREST MEADOW ---------------------------------------- 01.08 --+ As you approach the gate here there is kind of a miniboss, the wolf pops up out of the ground and this wolf means business. Defeating him shouldn't be too difficult though, I recommend busting out that old shield of yours which if you're like me, you don't use very often. Target the wolf with the L/Z button and then while targeting hold your shield with the R button to deflect attacks. Now when you think you have a clear shot, for example right after he attacks, press the A button to do the jumping slash which is quite powerful. Land a few of these babies and the wolf will go crying back to its wolf mother. Enter the next section and keep an eye on your map because it can be a little confusing. Make a right at the very beginning and follow the path to a couple of Deku Scrubs. These aren't the chatty type, you can go ahead and kill them after you've used your sword to deflect the Deku Nuts back in their direction. Make your way up to the top until you reach some stairs. Turn around and notice the ladder on the wall here, climb up this ladder. In the middle there is another ladder and an area where you can jump down. There is a hole down at the bottom of this area, when you drop down the hole you'll find a Fairy Fountain. Faeries have the ability to heal you, they can also be captured and placed in bottles. Whenever you have a Fairy in a bottle, it will automatically revive you when you die. Leave the Fair Fountain and climb up the ladder outside. Return to that large staircase and ascend it to reach the top where you will find Saria. She will teach you SARIA'S SONG which will be quite important to you in your quest. Return to the Lost Woods. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______) (, / / ) / +-- (_/ HE LOST WOODS ---------------------------------------------- 01.09 --+ Just as you get here once again the owl swoops down to have a chat with you. Listen to the owl and then bid him goodbye. Get back to Kokiri Forest, then turn around and enter the Lost Woods once again. Make a right and you'll find yourself in the area with the target hanging down from the tree. Descend down the ladder then stand on the tree stump. Equip your Fairy Ocarina to one of the C buttons and then use it, a message should be displayed telling you to follow along. They will gradually move up to a song with five notes to it, simply listen and look at what they play and then play it yourself. The prize for winning this is a GREEN RUPEE. Agree to play again and this time you will have to follow along up to six notes instead of five. Your reward for completing this challenge will be a BLUE RUPEE. Finally there is one more that involves you playing and memorizing eight notes. It shouldn't be too difficult and your reward for this far exceeds the previous two, you get a PIECE OF HEART [003] for completing it successfully. On one more piece to go. Ascend up the ladder once again and take the path directly in front of you, at the next fork take the path dead ahead once again. Jump onto the tree stump and press the C button associated with your Fairy Ocarina. Play Saria's Song while standing on this stump and the kid will give you yet another PIECE OF HEART [004]. This should complete a full Heart Container if you have been following the guide up to this point. There is a path to take in this area, not the one you came from, there is another one. Take that one and it will lead you to an area with all sorts of pillars scattered about. There is really only one thing to do here, jump down to the very bottom and run to the far end. There you will find a Deku Scrub hidden behind one of the pillars. Use your shield and deflect a Deku Nut back at him. After doing so approach the Deku Scrub and speak to him. You can purchase the DEKU STICK UPGRADE from this little scrub, for the low low price of 40 Rupees he will enable you to be able to carry around 20 Deku Sticks, it's well worth the price. There is a long ladder back on the opposite side, take it and leave The Lost Woods. Your destination finally is now Kakariko Village as Impa was talking about. Leave Kokiri Forest and head for the Hyrule Field. You will find Kakariko Village located near the drawbridge to the Hyrule Market. East of the bridge there is a river with a bridge going over it, cross this bridge and it will lead you in the general direction of a set of stairs leading up into the mountains. Ascend these stairs and follow the path into Kakariko Village. ______________________________________________________________________________ __ __) (, ) / /( ) / \_ +-- (_/ AKARIKO VILLAGE --------------------------------------- 01.10 --+ For a change from the usual what you are going to want to do is enter Kakariko Village at night, preferably just after the howling so that it hasn't been night for too long. There are quite a few Gold Skulltulas in this town to acquire so let's go hunting for a few of those first. Enter the village and go past the tree in the centre. When you have the first opportunity to make a right, do so and climb up the stairs. Make a right at the top of the stairs and you will come across a Skulltula crawling on the side of the house, eliminate this enemy and pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [008]. Return to that tree in the centre of town, this time keep moving in the same direction as when you come in from the entrance of town, climb the stairs straight ahead of you and turn around to find another set of stairs going even higher, up to that kind of brick area. Here you will find another Skulltula crawling around on the brick wall, eliminate it and pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [009]. Come in from the entrance to the village once again and make a left this time, there is a large set of stairs leading up to the area above. When you get up there move to the north side of that tall tower, then pull out your Fairy Slingshot and aim up at it. Crawling around on the ladder is yet another Skulltula, fire two Deku Seeds at this enemy and then climb up the ladder to acquire the GOLD SKULLTULA [010]. Next it's time to visit the local cemetery. At the southeast corner of town you will find the path to the Kakariko Village Graveyard. Follow that path to get to the graveyard. The old man Dampe should be wandering around the graveyard here, when you speak to him he offers to dig up a portion of the ground for the low low price of 10 Rupees. The only purpose of doing this is to hope you acquire the PIECE OF HEART [005]. It's not a common occurrence and it can get pretty annoying. What you're trying to do is speak to him and have him dig while he's on the patches of dirt on the stone path, not the stone path itself, if you look you'll see them. Now what you want to do is head over to the east side of the graveyard beside the large tombstone and stand on the Triforce emblem on the ground. Use your Fairy Ocarina and play Zelda's Lullaby, which is left, up, right, left, up, right. After doing this there is a large explosion and the tombstone is destroyed, revealing a path down into the ground. Jump down into the whole which leads down and you'll find yourself in the Royal Tomb. What you will want to do is equip the Fairy Slingshot and use it to eliminate the four bats you see perched on the walls here. After doing that the door will be unlocked and you can climb up the ledge and continue through it. Zombies! These things are so hideous that if they even look at you, you will be completely frozen and unable to move. If he jumps you then simply jam buttons on the controller until you can move again and start running. Ignore the zombies, just stick to one side of the room and stay close to the wall as you make your way toward the door. When you reach the end of the tomb take a look at the inscription on the wall. You will notice that below it there is some kind of melody already written on there, perhaps you should play it. After doing so you learn the SUN'S SONG. Return to the entrance of the tomb and step on the glowing platform to get outside. Return to the graveyard and play the Sun's Song which you just learned to change the time to night once again, as most of the stuff there is to do in the graveyard must be done at night. Head to the entrance of the graveyard and follow the path up past the first row of tombstones to reach the second row on the east side. The fourth tombstone from the right (south) is going to have a hidden path below it, drop down and defeat the zombie, then stand on those little steps and equip your Fairy Ocarina. Play the Sun's Song, right, down, up, right, down, up and a treasure chest should appear right in front of you. Open this treasure chest to get the PIECE OF HEART [006]. Return to where you enter the graveyard and head up toward the first tombstones, note that one of the ones right in front of you has three small plants growing in front of it. What you want to do is grab hold of this tombstone with the A button and then pull it backward to reveal a secret hole. Open the small chest here to acquire a HYLIAN SHIELD, the one I told you not to purchase before because you get it here for free. Leave the grave and leave the village entirely. Play the Sun's Song to change to daytime, then go back. Head back to the graveyard entrance but don't actually go into the graveyard, instead speak with the woman standing just opposite the entrance with her hands on her face beside the chicken coop. Speak to her and she will ask you to bring back her Cuccos to the pen. The first one is easy, it should be walking around right beside you near the entrance to the graveyard, grab it with the A button and throw it into the fenced area beside the girl. Go back to the entrance of the village and you will find a second Cucco wandering around minding its own business. Pick it up over your head with the A button and then run all the way east up the stairs, and turn around to find another set of stairs going up to that incomplete brick house. There is a special neat trick about Cuccos, when you jump off a cliff the violent flapping of their wings will allow you to glide. Jump off the edge of this incomplete house with the Cucco still in hand and glide directly west to reach the little raised ledge with the Cucco, behind that fence that you could not access otherwise. Throw your Cucco back down into the middle of town and take this one over to the chicken coop. Go back to the main middle area of town with the tree and notice the crate against the house when you face northeast. Break this crate by rolling into it and grab the Cucco, bring it back to the chicken coop. From the middle of town take the large north set of stairs up toward the path that leads to Death Mountain, you should come across a Cucco there which is just minding its own business. Pick up this Cucco and bring it back to the girl. Grab hold of the fourth one, which is the one you threw off the edge when you landed and got the Cucco behind the fence. Don't throw it back, but head toward the graveyard entrance, climb the stairs leading north. You should still have the Cucco in hand like I said, you'll need it here in order to glide. Notice that if you run straight north and jump off the edge, you can't quite make it over the large fence, don't worry. Notice that beside the large fence is a smaller fence that actually extends out further toward you, this fence you CAN barely glide over so do that now, you'll land beside a door. Face the main area where you just came from and throw the Cucco back, you can get it easily afterward. Jump down behind you and you'll land beside a hole, drop down into the hole and open the small treasure chest to acquire a RED RUPEE. Climb out of this hole and then go north to find a Cucco beside the ladder. Lift it up and throw it over the fence like you did the other one, it will be there waiting for you after. Now climb that fence up to where the windmill is and grab the final Cucco. Use this one to glide back across and throw it into the chicken coop. Now all you have to do is find those two which you threw over the fence for later and that takes care of all seven. Speak to the girl and she will reward you nicely with another EMPTY BOTTLE. Your next destination is going to be the House of Skulltula. When you enter the village from Hyrule Field, stick to the right until you come across some stairs on your right. Head up them, and at the top turn right and immediately right again as a 180 degree turn. In front of you should be the door into the House of Skulltula. The people in here have been imprisoned by Skulltula and only you can free them by collecting Gold Skulltula tokens. Assuming you have collected at least ten, the guy on the right side of the house will be free and he will reward you with the ADULT'S WALLET. Now I have a quick trip for you to make, so please indulge since it's close by. Leave the village and head across the bridge and into Hyrule Castle Town. You don't actually have to enter the Market, go through the door right beside the drawbridge entrance and begin filling this new wallet of yours with plenty of Rupees. While you're here there is a Skulltula you can collect which was not mentioned before, note the two crates at the back of the room? Run into them and roll with the A button to break them open, one will reveal a Skulltula inside. Defeat this enemy in order to acquire GOLD SKULLTULA [011]. Now it's finally time to proceed with the game. Head back to Kakariko Village once again, during the day or night, it doesn't really matter. I guess that day is preferable most of the time. Approach the guard beside the gate at the north side of town. Equip Zelda's Letter on one of your C buttons and use it while standing directly in front of the guard. After seeing the letter the guard has no choice but to open the gate for you and allow you to pass, it's time to begin your arduous trek up the Death Mountain toward Goron City. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______ (, / ) / / _/___ /_ +-- (_/___ / EATH MOUNTAIN TRAIL --------------------------------- 01.11 --+ The first creatures you will encounter on this trail are the jumping spider enemies you may recognize from previous games. They should not be too difficult to defeat, just hold the R button to defend with your Hylian Shield when they jump into the air. Make your way up the path past the Goron and past the door blocked by the enormous boulder. Continue up the linear path toward the end where you will find the large entrance to the Goron City. ______________________________________________________________________________ _____) / / / / ) +-- (____ / ORON CITY ------------------------------------------- 01.12 --+ Goron City is a relatively open and active place, perhaps not so much at the moment, but soon. There are a few things to do while you are here, the first of which is to launch yourself off the edge at the top here and land way down at the bottom of the city. Note that there is kind of a rug thing in front of the door to the north, stand on this rug and use your Fairy Ocarina. Play Zelda's Lullaby to open this large door. Head inside the room and speak with the leader of the Gorons, Darunia. After speaking with him, stand in front of the large Goron and play Saria's Song. The Goron will be so happy that you played the song, and offers the Spiritual Stone of Fire if you head for the Dodongo's Cave and rid it of all the monsters. He also gives you the GORON'S BRACELET which will allow you to pick up bombs from Bomb Flowers and use them. Equip a Deku Stick, something you likely haven't used in awhile and use one of the torches in Darunia's Room to set it on fire. Exit this room and just outside, run around lighting the various torches as well as the Bomb Flowers on the wall. When all four of the torches are lit, the large pot in the middle begins to spin around and around. When at least one of the Bomb Flowers is lit, it blasts open that door beside it and reveals the entrance to the shop. There's nothing really important to buy here, so just note that this shop does in fact exist, and then leave. You'll need another Deku Stick at this point, if you do not have any then you should note they can be found by breaking the various pots in Darunia's Room. Light the Deku Stick using one of the four torches you just lit, preferably one of the ones at the bottom of the stairs then climb the stairs and light the two torches on the next level up. After doing that go down the hall past the torches and light the Bomb Flowers here. What you have just done is blast open a secret tunnel which takes you to the Lost Woods, a great shortcut from Goron City. The time has come to leave Goron City, but not through the shortcut, rather back through the way you came in that takes you up to the Death Mountain Trail. When you get outside make a right turn and follow the path to a Goron laying down beside a Bomb Flower. Speak to the Goron to learn about Bomb Flowers as if you haven't already been using them. Grab a bomb from the Bomb Flower, hold up on the analog stick and press A to throw it over the edge. The camera should change to give you a view of Dodongo's Cavern, if you threw the bomb correctly then it will completely blast the boulder blocking the entrance to bits. When you manage to do this successfully, take a look on your left for a small platform and jump from there down to the cave entrance. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______ (, / ) / / _/___ /_ +-- (_/___ / ODONGO'S CAVERN ------------------------------------- 01.13 --+ Right away you are greeted by a strong sturdy door which will not allow you to pass. The solution to this is simple, just grab one of the bombs out of the Bomb Flowers and throw it at the door, the explosion should make short work of it. As you enter the cave Navi takes a moment to speak with you, listen to what she says because some of these lava pits can be quite dangerous. Jump from this bridge straight across to the pillar which is moving up and down. When it's at he top, jump from the pillar to the middle platform. There is an enemy in the middle of this platform, a laser-beam shooting eyeball statue. Note the eyeball which spins around slowly, just make sure you never get into the line of sight of this eyeball and you'll be fine. While still facing the same direction, turn right and jump across to the pillar, and from there to the ledge on the other side. Notice that there are two doors to be blown up on this platform, one on each side and a Bomb Flower on the middle. From facing the same direction, blast the one on the right. The one on the left only reveals a simple Gossip Stone. If you happen to get seen by the laser statue here, simply run away from it and once you get a certain distance away, the laser will stop firing. Proceed through the door you blasted open. Do not underestimate the enemies in this next room. They are small slugs which squirm up to you and only take a single strike to defeat, however seconds after you defeat them the slugs will curl up and explode, so keep your distance. Defeat the first three and then when the second three pop up, as you head down the hall, note the wall on the left which can be blown up. Kill at least one of these enemies near the door and allow it to explode, revealing a secret path. Take this secret path into a room with a single torch. Notice that one the wall behind the torch there are three bats, eliminate them using your Fairy Slingshot from a distance and then get close. There is a Skulltula here on the wall, defeat it and use the jumping attack to acquire another GOLD SKULLTULA [012]. Return to the previous room, make a right turn and climb up onto the higher platform where you will find a large blue button. When you step on this button the gate blocking the door disappears. The problem is that whenever you step off the button, the gate drops down again. What you have to do is grab hold of one of those statues on the side using the A button, and drag it on top of the button so it holds the button down, then you are free to climb up to the doorway and go through it without any problem. Eliminate the two bats in this next hallway and grab the treasures hidden within the pots. Enter the room through the door at the end of the hall and it locks behind you. This room is the battlefield for a duel between you and two sword wielding lizard monsters. There's no way to escape so whip out your sword. These things make the absolute most annoying noises ever, but that doesn't mean they are difficult. Take on one at a time if possible, but that's usually the way it works out anyway. A safe way to win is to simply block an attack then go in with one of your own, defending and them using the jump attack by locking on and pressing the A button is an effective tactic, you can also go offensive and just keep attacking without giving them a chance to attack themselves. After they have taken a lot of damage the lizards may retreat, obviously all you have to do is run after them. Once both lizards have been defeated, proceed through the door and continue on. If you've lost track which door is which, no problem. If you go through and you're back in that hallway again, then it's the wrong door, continue on to the correct path. This room is populated by a couple of Dodongo enemies. These are similar to the ones you fought before, however much bigger and fully developed. They weakness is their tail on the back end, when you strike the tail the enemies do a 180 degree turn and blast fire in your face. While they are turning you should have enough time to move and get behind for another strike if the first one did not finish them off. Grab hold of a bomb and use it to blast open the wall beside the entrance to this room. It leads to a small room with a single Deku Scrub. Since the Hylian Shield totally disintegrates Deku Nuts that hit it, just use your Fairy Slingshot and fire Deku Seed at the scrub when he appears, that works just as well. This scrub will sell you Deku Sticks at 15 Rupees apiece, you'll need a few but I'm sure you likely already have some. Back outside this room again, kill all of the Dodongos. Be sure to stay away from them after they have been defeated, just like the mini Dodongos they will explode just before death. Whip out a Deku Stick and then light it on fire using the torch in this room, use that Deku Stick to light all of the other three torches and that will open the door at the end of the hall. Head through this door and step on the button. Jump out of this little area back into the main room once again, and then from here onto the pillar which is moving up and down. You need to get across to the middle platform and keep going straight to the opposite side of the room from where you came in. Grab a bomb from out of the Bomb Flower and use it on the cracked wall beside you, this wall will crumble and reveal a large treasure chest inside. Open the chest to acquire the DUNGEON MAP. Now take the door just beside this one. There are nearly two dozen Bomb Flowers growing in this room, your goal is clear as the light of day. Grab hold of a bomb and use it to blast open the wall, revealing the path to the next room. The door and a gate close behind you, you won't be getting back easily. There is something fishy about those statues, as it turns out, the one in the middle is no ordinary statue. It is alive, and has very bad intentions. You can only kill it with a bomb and it only comes alive once you touch it, so the solution is to throw a bomb at it, then when the bomb glows red, slash the enemy with your sword and run like hell. That should take care of him no problem. Open the enormous chest and you will receive the COMPASS for this dungeon, that will come in handy, now we can start using more accurate directions, keep an eye on your minimap. Head back to the previous room, the one with the dozens of Bomb Flowers growing along the wall. Note the two following things, there is a single Bomb Flower growing near the door you just came through, and there is no Bomb Flower growing in the exact middle of all the other ones. The solution of course is to take the bomb from out of the flower beside the door and set it down in that empty space. When the bomb explodes it will also ignite the two bombs on its left and right, and then they will ignite the next two etc. Eventually when all is said, done, and blown up, those explosions weakened the concrete structure in the middle and now you can climb up the stairs. Make either a left or a right when you reach the top, they both lead to the door. When you arrive you'll notice that there is a Skulltula crawling around on the wall which you can kill with a Jump Attack, and above it is a Gold Skulltula which you can kill using your Fairy Slingshot. This wall is climb-able, so climb up and grab your GOLD SKULLTULA [013] then head through the door. Once again the door closes behind you as does the gate. There are a couple of bats flying around in this room, not normal bats, flaming bats! Kill them using your Fairy Slingshot before they can swoop down and set you ablaze. Three of the four statues in this room are actually enemies, use the same tactic as before where you place the bomb down before you actually bring them to life. After the three of them have been eliminated, move the one normal statue out of the way and climb up the ladder. Take the east door to get out of this room. Be careful here once again of the flaming bats flying around this room. There is a gap in the bridge which obviously means you should take caution, but you should not have any problem jumping the gap and continuing east on the other side. Keep going and enter the next room. It's dangerous down at the bottom of this room here but you don't have a choice about jumping down. Watch out for the spike traps which react to your movement and try to hit you. Listen to what Navi says about L/Z targeting. On the east side of this room you will find a large block under a ladder. Grab hold of this block and pull it away from the wall. Behind it you will find a single recovery heart. Climb up on top of the block and then ascend the ladder. At the top of the ladder make a right, then do a 180 degree turn and drop down onto the pillar with the Bomb Flower and the small chest containing a RED RUPEE. Your timing for this next thing has to be perfect, lift a bomb above your head and wait. Let it start flashing red and keep holding it. When it starts flashing extremely fast, wait approximately one second or so and then throw the bomb at the wall at the top of the ladder. It should blast it down. Drop down and take the ladder to the next area. Equip your Fairy Slingshot and aim it up at the eyeball above the door at the end here. Now that the flames have been extinguished, jump across to the door on the other side and proceed through the hall. Ignore the smaller Dodongos here and you make your way through the door at the end. it's time for yet another battle against these lizard enemies, the same exact tactic as last time still applies. Defend against their attacks and then use a few attacks of your own. If you're low on health note that there are two recovery hearts down at the end of the long path, but at that point you aren't fighting over top of hot magma, you're fighting over top of the room below, so don't fall. When the two lizards have been defeated, proceed through the west door. Extinguish the flame by using your Fairy Slingshot to fire up at the eyeball above the door. After the flame has been extinguished, jump to the platform and aim left. There is another eyeball in here which will extinguish the second flame. Go through the door and jump across the gap, here inside the large treasure chest you will find the BOMB BAG. The Bomb Bag allows you to place bombs yourself rather than relying on Bomb Flowers, this particular bag comes equipped with a maximum carrying capacity of 20 bombs. Take the west exit beside this chest and step on the button to raise the pillar up into the air. Head right and cross over the large bridge to the other side. Use your newly acquired Bomb Bag to blast open this wall and reveal a small chest containing a BLUE RUPEE. Now on your way back, note that there are two gaps in the bridge. Stand right at the edge of the first gap and use a bomb. Drop it down the gap and wait for it to explode. It should land in the eye cavity and make the little secret noise. Now do the same thing, drop another bomb down the other bridge gap and when both eyes are illuminated, the mouth opens. If you want you can return to the previous room and bomb the north wall, there are two Deku Scrubs in there will to sell you Deku Nuts and Deku Seeds, it's really not worth it at all. Jump down to the main room and enter through the mouth door you just revealed. Use your Fairy Slingshot to eliminate the bats and then jump up into the tunnel leading east. Once again be sure to kill the flaming bats before they cause you any real trouble. What you're trying to do primarily is just climb around on the blocks and gradually make your way to the north side of this room, where there is a wall you can blast open using a bomb. Drop a bomb beside the statue in this room, kill it if you wish but all that matters is that it gets out of the way because behind it is another GOLD SKULLTULA [014]. Grab the token and leave the room. Climb around in this room once again and make your way across to the west door. This hall leads to a block you can push down into the room below. Grab this block after you have pushed it over the edge and drop it down into that hole in the middle. When you're ready, head through the west door and open the small treasure chest here to acquire BOMBS. Place a bomb in the centre of this room to blast a hole and then drop down the hole in the middle to trigger the boss fight. I cannot begin to explain the simplicity of this boss, perhaps I will explain it by basically just telling you how to defeat him. First of all you should acquaint yourself with the little 45 degree slope between the path you are on and the lava in the middle, while standing on this slope you are immune to all his attacks. None of them can hit you there, you could go eat dinner and come back the boss would sill be running around like an idiot. As for actually fighting the boss here's how it works. He stops and begins to suck in air for his fire breath attack which launches a blast of fire down the path and around the corner. What you have to do is lift a bomb above your head while the boss is breathing in, and then throw it into his mouth. When the bomb explodes the boss drops down and that is your chance to hit him exactly once. Use the Jump Attack when he falls. After the boss gets up he will roll down and around the corner, dodge this attack easily by standing on that little sloping area like I told you. At the end the boss uncurls itself and the process begins all over again. It should take only four hits to kill the boss with normal attacks, and as little as three with the Jump Attack. He will never be able to use his fire breath as long as you always throw a bomb into his mouth. In fact the only real danger of damage in this fight is from you, holding a bomb for too long. When the boss is defeated he will roll himself into the lava in the middle of the map and then just die, solidifying it in the process. Grab the HEART CONTAINER from the middle of the room and take the warp back outside. Darunia appears and makes good of his word, you receive the GORON'S RUBY. From here all you have to do is run up the path to Goron City again. ______________________________________________________________________________ _____) / / / / ) +-- (____ / ORON CITY ------------------------------------------- 01.14 --+ Enter the Goron City and drop down to the second lowest level, you should be at just about the same height as the top of that spinning urn. What you have to do is stand at the side here and throw bombs from your Bomb Bag into the urn. If you manage to get one in successfully then the urn will spin around in circles even faster and more wildly. Note the three different expressions on the side of it, one happy, one neutral and one angry. Your goal is to spin it so it lands on the happy face and when it does, a PIECE OF HEART [007] will pop out. You can also get a number of Rupees from doing this as well. Make your way up now to the next level, the one in the middle. This one is easy to discern from the rest of them because it has a crazy Goron rolling around, damaging you if you get anywhere close to him. Notice that on the north side there is kind of an underpass, a closed in tunnel that the Goron passes through. Drop a bomb from your Bomb Bag in the middle of this tunnel and time it so that the bomb explodes just as the Goron is rolling over top of it. For doing this successfully the Goron rewards you with the BIG BOMB BAG which allows you to carry 30 bombs instead of a mere 20. If you're having trouble with it, note that most people tend to overestimate the Goron's speed, he really isn't going very fast at all. Now head back up to the top. On the west side of the path there are three medium sized rocks sitting in your way. Take a bomb out of your new, larger Bomb Bag and place it in front of these three rocks to blast them out of the way. This path now leads you through a little tunnel. At the end of this tunnel you will find a kind of rock maze. There is no way I can dictate to you through words how to get through this, but fortunately it's not a matter of actually being difficult, it's just a matter of having enough bombs. As long as you have a full supply you'll be able to blast your way through and inevitably make your way to the end no matter how poorly you navigate the maze. At the end you will find two chests containing a PURPLE RUPEE, and another PURPLE RUPEE. Behind these two treasure chests is a crate, smash the crate by rolling into it with the A button to reveal a Skulltula. When you defeat the enemy you can pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [015]. That's pretty much all there is to do in Goron City, your destination is the Death Mountain, take the trail up to get there. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______ (, / ) / / _/___ /_ +-- (_/___ / EATH MOUNTAIN TRAIL --------------------------------- 01.15 --+ Leave Goron City but follow the normal path, don't jump down the shortcut where the Bomb Flower is. As you leave the city stick to the wall on your left which will eventually turn into a fence. When the fence on your left ends, take a look at the wall on your right to find a weak area of wall. Blow it up using one of your bombs and inside you will find a chest containing a PURPLE RUPEE. Next return to the entrance of the Death Mountain Trail, where you entered it from Kakariko Village. Make your way up the trail while keeping an eye on the right wall, when you reach a section that looks a little bit awkward, equip your bombs and place a bomb in front of that section of wall. The wall breaks open and reveals a very small path that leads only to a Skulltula. Defeat the enemy with your Fairy Slingshot and then you can climb the wall it was clinging to get the GOLD SKULLTULA [016]. Climb back up toward Goron City but stop at that steep hill, the one that leads up to a whole bunch of rocks and a sign. The sign should say Mountain Summit, Danger Ahead - Keep Out. If you find this sign then you're in the right place. There are indeed rocks in your way here, rocks that will not allow you to climb up any further. Fortunately you have that Bomb Bag that you got from the cavern so take out a bomb and use it to blast these rocks which are in your way. At the top of the first sloping path you will have to lift a bomb above your head and time the throw in order to explode the rock across from you. Jump over the gap and climb up further. You will come across a large rock in your path and when you destroy this rock it reveals a hole underneath. Drop down this hole to find three things, Rupees, health and a cow. If you like since you probably aren't using them for anything else, you can fill those two Empty Bottles with Lon Lon Milk by standing in front of the cow and playing Epona's Song on your Fairy Ocarina. Epona’s Song is up, left, right, up, left, right if you don't remember. Now leave this little hole. Continue along the path until suddenly, out of nowhere everything begins to shake and rocks fall down from the skies above onto your head. Death Mountain is erupting and taking all its rage out on young Link. You have two choices, you can hold the R button to shield yourself until it stops and then run for a couple of seconds before it starts again, or you can realize that the rocks really don't do much damage at all and just keep running until you reach the end of the path where the eruption stops. There is a wall here to climb, be sure to equip your Fairy Slingshot and fire up at the Skulltulas before actually beginning to climb. There are a total of three of them on this wall and you should not attempt to climb to the top until you know that all three have been taken care of. At the top equip your bombs and then use one of them on the wall to your left. Take the path into the Great Fairy's Fountain. This is a critical moment for Link, something good is going to happen. Similar to what you did in the graveyard, stand on the Triforce emblem and play Zelda's Lullaby. The combination is of course left, up, right, left, up, right. The Fairy of Power comes out of the water and grants you a sword technique. You finally have a magic meter now and can use the magic Spin Attack. You can still perform the normal Spin Attack that doesn't consume magic energy by rotating the analog stick and pressing the B button. Leave and take the pass this time on the right, beside the Great Fairy Fountain. ______________________________________________________________________________ ______ (, / ) / / _/___ /_ +-- (_/___ / EATH MOUNTAIN CRATER -------------------------------- 01.16 --+ A timer appears on the screen, basically this timer keeps track of your ability to withstand the searing hear from the volcano. You only have as much time in the crater as the timer shows. The first thing you are going to want to do here is roll into the crate directly on your left when you enter. A Skulltula pops out of the crate when it smashes and you can kill it and then pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [017]. After doing this you have wasted precious valuable seconds so leave the crater and then enter it a second time. This time you are going to be going in a little bit further. Head straight ahead and soon enough you will come to an edge where there is a thin board going across. Ignore the board and instead, hold up on the analog stick very slightly so that you are only walking. As you walk off the edge you should grab onto it, this wall is climb-able which means you can climb down as well. Descend down this wall and as you go you should notice an opening in the middle, get below it and climb up to reach the inner section. Here you will find another PIECE OF HEART [008]. If you have been following the guide then that is your eighth Piece of Heart and you have now just netted yourself an additional Heart Container. If you are having trouble with this, like for example finding that your timer gets lower and lower even when you leave, I'm fairly sure it's based on how many hearts you have. Head back into the Great Fairy Fountain and have her heal you, it should start at the maximum time. Leave the Death Mountain Crater and speak to the owl perched upon the sign. He offers to lend you a ride back down the mountain, accept his offer and he will drop you onto a roof in Kakariko Village, not just any roof, a roof which you would have difficulty accessing any other way. We need to take advantage of this opportunity. Here's what to do, after you are dropped off on the room, walk slowly to the southeast most corner of the roof. Look at your map to judge this, you should be beside a wall and just above the chicken coop where you threw all the chickens. Directly below you should be kind of a little roof cover thing for the chicken coop, what you want to do is walk very slowly and hang off the edge, then drop onto this roof cover. Beside you is a secret entrance into the house, take it. Grab the PIECE OF HEART [009] here and then leave the house, I guess you could use that cow to get some Lon Lon Milk if you really wanted. Anyway now that you have access to the bombs there are a number of things you can do that you couldn't do before without them. ______________________________________________________________________________ ____ ___) (, / / /---/ ) / / +-- (_/ (__ YRULE ADVENTURE! ------------------------------------- 01.05 --+ Your first destination in this optional adventure is going to be the Hyrule Town Market. Next door to the Shooting Gallery, the Bombchu Bowling Alley is now open for business. Head there now, each game costs 30 Rupees and you'll likely be playing a lot so be sure to bring a lot of money with you. Here's how it works, there are a number of prizes which are randomized. The prizes are Bombs, Purple Rupee, Bombchus, PIECE OF HEART [010] and BIGGEST BOMB BAG, the final two are obviously the ones you'll really be working toward. Each game gives you a total of ten Bombchus and three targets, the first and final targets are always identical while the middle one is randomized. You can lift one Bombchu into the air with the B button, once lifted the bomb is activated and it's on a timer so do not lift until you are fully ready to throw. A Bombchu will go in a straight line ahead of where you throw it, but it will not explode when it hits a wall, rather it will climb that wall. You have to use your geometric knowledge and angles and such to win this game: 1 - For this one, the easiest one all you have to do is stand in the middle in front of the blue arrow and throw a Bombchu straight ahead. It should go into the hole in the middle and explode, taking down the wall. 2 - As I mentioned there are three possible targets for this one and they are randomized. The easiest is when the target appears in the middle. Before you only had to deal with the spike trap obstacle but now you have to get it past that and the Cucco as well. Wait for the Cucco to move or when it's about to move and throw your Bombchu straight ahead. The next possibility is for it to appear on the far left. For this one stand a couple black notches left of the middle and look straight ahead. Tap the analog stick extremely lightly to the left and throw to get it in. The third and final possibility is that it will appear on the far right. This is similar to the one on the far left however I find you have to stand closer to the right wall for this one than stood close to the left wall for the other one. Rather than standing a few notches off the centre, stand a few notches left or the right wall and tap the analog stick weakly to the right. It should go down and then into the hole. 3 - This final one is the most difficult, a large Cucco appears in the middle and while it is very possible to get it down the middle past both of them, it's extremely difficult and not worth doing. Instead stand exactly where you would stand if it was on the far left, about two or three black notches left of the middle arrow. Now tap the analog stick on a 45 degree angle to the upper right, or northeast then let loose. If you're lucky it will curve around the wall and into the hole eventually. With those two important items now in your possession, it's time to head for the Hyrule Castle again. If you want to save ten Rupees you can climb up the vine and drop down behind the gate, or you can just approach the guard and give him ten Rupees, he'll let you through. Just past the gate there is a fork in the road and the path leading right leads to a large rock. Now that you have bombs, pull one out of your bag and use it to destroy this rock standing in your way, then enter the crawlspace behind it. This turns out to be one of the Great Fairy's Fountains. Head into it and approach the water, just like before you have to take out your Fairy Ocarina and play it while standing on the Triforce emblem. Play Zelda's Lullaby, left, up, right, left, up, right and a Fairy will appear in front of you. She teaches you the DIN'S FIRE technique. After that she heals you up and sends you on your way. The easiest way to get out of here is to just get caught. Return to Hyrule Field. Directly west of the drawbridge leading into Hyrule Castle Town there is a rock just sitting out there in the field, take out one of your bombs and use it to blast that rock to bits. Drop down the hole that you find below the rock and open the small chest to acquire a BLUE RUPEE. How very not worth it. Anyway there is only really one other thing of note on this field. At the very northwest corner of Hyrule Field, west of where you just were there is another rock across the stream. Below it you will find a normal Fairy Fountain with a number of faeries flying around just waiting to heal you up or be caught in Empty Bottles for use at a later time. Leave the fountain and head all the way back to Kokiri Forest where you began the game. Enter The Lost Woods here. Make a right at the first fork and a left at the second. Here you will come across a boulder which you can blow up using one of your bombs. Down below it you will find a chest containing BLUE RUPEE. Leave this place and then take the door to the right of the hole in the ground then left at the spring. Head straight at this next junction and then left at the one after that, blow up the rock and drop down the hole. There are two Deku Scrubs here, fire your Fairy Slingshot at both of them. The one on the right is useless however the one on the left sells you the DEKU NUT UPGRADE for only 40 Rupees. Be sure to take advantage of this offer. Head back and take that secret shortcut that brings you to Goron City. Leave Goron City through the top exit to get back to the Death Mountain Trail. Make your way down to Kakariko Village, but before you actually go into the village, make sure it's night time. When you enter the village, take a look on the back of the large house on the north side, it should be right near you. Here you will find another GOLD SKULLTULA [018] crawling around on the back wall. That's about it for optional stuff (although Din's Fire isn't optional, you'll have to get it at some point eventually.) What you want to do now is head out to Hyrule Field and then make your way east from the entrance to Kakariko Village. Locate the river flowing along and the source of the river is your destination. At the northeast side of Hyrule Field you will find a large enclosed area where the river flows from, follow this to reach Zora's River. ______________________________________________________________________________ ___ (, ) / _/_ ) / +-- (__ / ORA'S RIVER ---------------------------------------------- 01.18 --+ Just after you enter the owl speaks to your again. He says the Zora do not let just anyone in, a person must have some connection to the royal family. Right now as you probably already know, Zelda's Lullaby is your connection to the royal family so keep that in mind. Equip bombs onto one of your C buttons and then blow up all the rocks which are blocking your path. Before you proceed, note the tree on your left. Run up and roll into it to make a Skulltula fall out of the tree. Defeat this enemy and you will receive GOLD SKULLTULA [019]. Make your way along the path and around the corner, you'll come across some guy just sitting there. Walk up to him and speak with him. He offers to sell you a MAGIC BEAN for ten Rupees, and that's a pretty good deal, so take him up on his offer and buy one. Plant this Magic Bean in the little hole beside where the guy is sitting. For now it will remain a little shrub but eventually it will grow tall into a mighty beanstalk. Keep speaking to him and he will continue to sell you Magic Beans. Every Magic Bean that you buy is more expensive than the last by ten Rupees. For example the first one costs ten however the second one costs twenty, the third costs thirty and the tenth costs one hundred (you can only purchase ten.) If you wish to buy all of them now it's going to cost you a total of 550 Rupees so you would be making a few trips back and forth to fill your adult wallet. Don't worry too much about it right now, I'll be sure to cover it soon enough. Before you came across the fat guy eating the beans you probably noticed a Cucco walking around among all those rocks. Go back and pick up the Cucco above your head. Remember that while holding a Cucco you can jump further than you normally can, this will come in handy very soon. With the Cucco in hand jump across the river. Make your way east until you reach that little waterfall and then jump across to the north. While you are going up this hill you should be able to see the Piece of Heart up on the platform from here, that's the one we're going for. At the top of the hill keep going straight and jump across the river to reach the north side. Now turn and keep going east, you should pass by a log of some sort on your right, this means you're going in the correct direction. When you reach the ledge, throw your Cucco up to the higher part and climb up yourself, grab the Cucco again when you get up there. Hop down into the water beside you, it's only knee deep, then throw your Cucco up to the next ledge and climb up yourself. From here go as far south as you can without jumping, then turn and face southwest. You should see a small platform of land way down there, and a long ladder coming up from it. With Cucco above your head, glide down to that stretch of land. Throw your Cucco in the river and ignore the consequences while you begin to ascend. When you reach the top turn around and jump across to the platform to the south, there is a hole in this platform which you can drop down. At the bottom open the chest to receive a RED RUPEE. Leave this little cave and jump back across again. Here you will find a large boulder surrounded by small rocks. If you place a bomb beside this boulder and blow it up, it will reveal the way to a Fairy Fountain in case you need to restore your health or anything like that. Leave the fountain when you're done, now it is indeed time to get that heart piece. Grab hold of the Cucco which just happens to be wandering around here and go over to the east side. Here there is a very thin bridge leading north to the other platform, face north and press the L button to centre your camera, walk across this extremely slowly with the Cucco above your head. Now from here you can jump and glide down to get the PIECE OF HEART [011]. Since the Cucco you had likely just dropped off and committed suicide, head back to the beginning of the river and grab the original one. Take this Cucco along the same way you did with the other one. Everything is the same until that point where you face southwest and jump way down to the platform with the ladder on it. Don't do that this time, instead turn around and throw your Cucco across the water onto the hill then go across and get it. Continue along the path, across the bridge and you will reach an area with all sorts of criss crossing land bridges. Stay on these land bridges with Cucco in hand and make your way to the waterfall, or just in front of it. You should find a kind of grey platform in front of it, ignore that and keep going up on that path to the highest part you can possibly reach. When you turn around and face west you will see another heart piece, jump down with the Cucco so that you can glide and grab hold of the PIECE OF HEART [012]. There is no longer any reason to keep that Cucco with you. If it's not night time right now then play the Sun's Song so that it becomes night time, then drop down in front of the waterfall, the water isn't very deep here so you can run around. On the kind of northwest part of this little land bridge area, directly below where you collected the Piece of Heart there is a ladder and on that ladder is an enemy. Defeat this enemy and pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [020]. Now that you have twenty tokens there is something to do, and a couple other non related things to do as well. Let's start heading back. On your way back through Zora's River, remember that part where I mentioned a log on your right that you passed, around the middle of the area? Head back there and climb up onto the log, there is a small space where you can stand and you get the message saying the frogs are looking at you. Stand on this place and pull out your Fairy Ocarina. Play Sari's Song and the frogs will reward you with a PURPLE RUPEE. Play Zelda's Lullaby to get a PURPLE RUPEE, then the Sun's Song to get a PURPLE RUPEE and finally Epona's Song to get a PURPLE RUPEE. These frogs really like their music and you're the one benefiting from it. Now head back to the very beginning of Zora's River and speak to the fat guy, use all the money you just got from those frogs to purchase Magic Beans. Now leave Zora's River and return to Hyrule Field. Make your way west through the river and back to the stairs leading up to Kakariko Village. When you get into the village make a right and go up the stairs to the House of Skulltula. There should be another guy here with a broken curse since you have collected twenty Skulltulas. He gives you the STONE OF AGONY, a special item which makes your controller rumble when a special secret is nearby. Basically he just gave you a Spider-sense. Anyway that's about all there is to do in this village. The next thing is just a recommendation. Return to Hyrule Castle Town, right at the entrance and go through the door to that room with all the pots. Now that you have the charge up spin attack, you can destroy all the pots in this room easily and collect over a hundred Rupees in barely a minute. Fill up your Adult Wallet to the full 200 Rupee capacity and return to Zora's River. Spend the rest of it on any more Magic Beans you can afford, you're going to have to buy them all eventually anyway and you might as well get most of it out of the way, don't worry if you can't afford all ten, just buy as many as possible. Now it's time to head for Zora's Domain. You've been there before once already but it's time to go back again. Return to the large waterfall in the area with all those natural criss-crossing bridges. When you stand in front of the waterfall you will find a special grey square, whip out your Fairy Ocarina on this particular spot and play the song which connects you to the royal family, Zelda's Lullaby (left, up, right, left, up, right.) Jump across the gap and take the door which leads right into Zora's Domain. ______________________________________________________________________________ ___ (, ) / _/_ ) / +-- (__ / ORA'S DOMAIN --------------------------------------------- 01.19 --+ When you first enter this area, follow the path along until you reach a large set of stairs. At the top there is a big, gross, thing. Ignore it for now and make a left turn, follow the path through the tunnel leading west and speak to the Zora at the end. You will have the option of playing the Diving Game for 20 Rupees. The Diving Game is one of the easiest minigames ever, your goal is to jump down into the water and collect all five of the Blue Rupees. Dive into the water from the waterfall above and then hold down the L/Z trigger button. This should give you a nice view from above which will allow you to see your shadow. Position yourself close to one of the five Blue Rupees and hold the A button to dive down. At the bottom, hold the analog stick in whatever the direction the Rupee is in, in the event you are not directly over top of it. You should be able to collect them all for sure. After successfully collecting all five Blue Rupees, head back up to where you started the game and speak to the Zora there once again. The Zora will reward you with a SILVER SCALE which allows you to dive for six seconds rather than a mere three seconds, this means of course that you can go deeper as well. After this you can still play the game as much as you like and make money off of it. More money in fact, now the Zora will throw Red Rupees in the water along with the blue ones. Some green ones two, but you'll still make a lot. Before we proceed with the game there is still one more thing to do. Remember that big ugly thing at the top of the stairs? Well that's the King of the Zora, we still don't want to speak to it, but we do want to go up to that room. Notice that on your right there is a lit torch, and one that is not lit at the bottom of the stairs. You know what to do, equip one of your many Deku Sticks and set it on fire. Bring it down the stairs and use it to light the torch at the bottom. Now put it away and bring it out again, so it doesn't burn out. Light another Deku Stick on fire using the torch at the bottom of the stairs and then run down the path. Make a left at the first chance you get and another left, there is a torch here. This torch is not a permanent one, it will burn out. Quickly de-equip and then re-equip a Deku Stick and light it again right here. Run across the shallow water and light the torch beside that circle of rocks, then make a left and stay very close to the wall as you make your way toward the waterfall so you don't have to go underwater. Behind the waterfall are two final torches and when these are lit, a large treasure chest will appear. If it doesn't then it means one of the previous ones probably already burnt out. Open the chest to get PIECE OF HEART [013]. Make your way back up to the king of the Zora and speak with him. You can speak to him by pressing the A button at the top of that little staircase. It seems that someone has gone missing, how very unfortunate. Here's what we want to do, make a left and go through the tunnel that leads you to the Diving Game. Jump off the edge of the waterfall and dive down into the water. Remember by now you should have acquired the Silver Scale. Swim over to where the underwater door can be seen and dive down. Head through to Lake Hylia. ______________________________________________________________________________ _ ___/__) (, / / +-- (_____ AKE HYLIA ----------------------------------------------- 01.20 --+ When you reach Lake Hylia you should notice something on the bottom of the lake directly in front of you at the start. Swim down and pick it up to acquire the LETTER. Before you bring it back to the King in Zora's Domain there is some stuff to do here first. Make your way to the east side of the lake and you should come across a door. This is the Fishing Pond. Speak to the guy at the counter and tell him you wish to go fishing, it only costs 20 Rupees. Here's how to play. Walk up to the water and press the L/Z button to look at a fish, then you can cast your line with the B button and press the A button to break the line. Wiggle the lure in with the analog stick and reel it in using the A and R buttons. Press A and down to set the hook when you feel a hit. That's about all there is to it. The pond is filled to the brim with fish so if you want to catch anything big you're going to have to prepare yourself in advance. Look around the pond and even swim around the pond trying to find the biggest fish you can. The one you are looking for is almost always situated around the middle, in a tiny little area around one of those logs, he's bigger than everything else so he should stand out. Launch your line from a distance and try to catch this particular fish, really he's the only one you're going to be interested in. Once you eventually catch this fish go back and talk to the guy at the counter, as a reward for the ten pound fish you get PIECE OF HEART [014]. Leave the Fishing Pond and swim across to the north shore, there you will find two scarecrows. It's time to learn the Scarecrow Song, sort of. Stand in front of the lower scarecrow and play your Ocarina. Any tune consisting of eight notes that you play, the scarecrow will memorize and you have to memorize it as well. Remember the tune you play for the scarecrow as you will need it later. If you ever want to change the tune, simply stand in front of the scarecrow and play it again, it will overwrite the first one. Take a look at your map and notice that big thing which goes out way over the water, this is a bridge and you are now going to want to take that bridge. Head over to the building where it starts and begin to cross the bridge. Ignore the owl in the middle as you continue to cross the other bridge to the southeast. When you reach the tree, look east to see a small island with two pillars on it. Swim over to this island and play the Sun's Song if it isn't nighttime already right now. During the night a Skulltula appears on one of these pillars, eliminate it and then grab the GOLD SKULLTULA [021]. Now head to the north end of Lake Hylia and take the exit to Hyrule Field. There is a ladder here on your left, take it up and then jump down on the other side in the field. Make your way to the far west side and enter Gerudo Valley. ______________________________________________________________________________ _____) / / / / ) +-- (____ / ERUDO VALLEY ---------------------------------------- 01.21 --+ This is a very interesting place, however you won't be able to find out much about it's charm since you are not welcome here at all. Period. Just follow what I say and you'll be able to get away with the best payload. Right at the very beginning take a look on your right to see some rocks on the ground, under one of the rocks are some little bugs. After lifting the rock, equip your bottle and use it to capture one of these bugs. Now head across the bridge just past this area and notice the Cucco here. You can't progress any further normally so don't even try. Grab hold of the Cucco and run over to the southwest cliff. When you look across the gap to the southwest just down a little bit you should see a tiny ledge with a single box, this is your destination. With Cucco in hand, jump off the cliff and glide down toward that ledge. When you land, throw the Cucco against the wall in an effort to try and keep it here, then roll into the box and grab the PIECE OF HEART [015]. Now pick up your Cucco again assuming it is still here. The next thing you are going to want to do is jump off the ledge and glide down toward the platform below. Way, way down at the very bottom there is a long ledge and on this ledge you will find a person, a cow and a hole. Break the crate and get the Rupee or whatever falls out of it, now equip your bottle and stand in front of the hole. Release the little bugs on top of the hole and they will crawl into it, after that a Skulltula will jump out. Defeat this enemy and pick up the GOLD SKULLTULA [022]. After doing this you had may as well plant one of those Magic Bean seeds you have into the hole here. Finally what you want to do while still on this ledge is run all the way to the north end and jump into the water. Swim behind the waterfall to the north and in the middle you will come across a ladder leading up. Basically all this does is lead up to a PIECE OF HEART [035] in a small area. Now that you have all this stuff out of the way it's time to proceed with the main game once again, here's how to get where you want to go. From here jump back into the river at the bottom of the Gerudo Valley and follow the current until it eventually takes you to Lake Hylia. When you arrive in Lake Hylia swim east until you reach that underwater door that takes you back to Zora's Domain. Make your way up to where the king is sitting. Stand on the platform in front of him and use the Letter in the bottle. After this is said and done, the king will move, revealing the path to the next dungeon and you will also receive the EMPTY BOTTLE which had the Letter inside. On the right side of the room take the sloping path up and enter ate area beyond the domain. ______________________________________________________________________________ ___ (, ) / _/_ ) / +-- (__ / ORA'S FOUNTAIN ------------------------------------------- 01.22 --+ Here of course is the
