Super Monkey Ball ruled, and that's a fact. It was polished to a sheen, it was tightly focused, and it had cute monkeys. Unfortunately, Super Monkey Ball Adventure, the latest entry in Sega's simian series, can only stake a claim to one of those merits. Taking the series in a more modern direction, Adventure offers up a lengthy story mode wherein you roam large environments in a rolling capsule, completing objectives to unlock further large environments. Trouble is, it lacks the series' former ...

Sega simians get a new handler... will the monkeys go wild?

Sega hands over its precious balls to Travellers Tales, a British developer you probably know from... well, chances are you probably dont know them. The developer has had success with Sega in the past, creating Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast. That said, the company has crafted more mediocre games than great ones. Should Super Monkey Ball fans be concerned that someone other than Sega is handling their favorite simians? From what weve seen so far, Super Monkey Ball Adventure contains many of ...   » Read Full Super Monkey Ball Adventure preview

Somehow, monkeys have built a prettier civilization than our own
Jun 1, 2006
Thursday June 1 2006 Did anyone ever actually sit back during a game of Super Monkey Ball and wonder what those entombed monkeys did in their spare time? Didn't think so. Looks like we're gonna find out anyway, as Adventure breaks them free from their floating puzzle trays and sets them loose in a full 3D quest to save monkey kind. Main monkey AiAi is still trapped inside the same globular prison as always, but instead of directing him to a well-defined goal, you'll lead him through vast, ...   » Read Full Super Monkey Ball Adventure preview

Looks like we're gonna find out anyway, as Adventure breaks them free from their floating puzzle trays and sets them loose in a full 3D quest to save monkey kind. Right. Main monkey AiAi is still trapped inside the same globular prison as always, but instead of directing him to a well-defined goal, you'll lead him through vast, open-ended worlds ...   » Read Full Super Monkey Ball Adventure preview
Super Monkey Ball Adventure
From saving themselves to liberating monkey-dom for all
Mar 15, 2006
By now we're all somewhat familiar with the unlucky simian quartet of Super Monkey Ball. They're obscenely adorable, baby-voiced tykes that can't seem to escape the glass ball / perpetual hamster wheel that encases them. Usually, you'd be tasked with wheeling them through a floating, twisting maze (like the wooden Labyrinth board game), but this time the primates are rolling into some Mario-style platforming. Super Monkey Ball Adventure keeps the little guys inside their round prisons, but ...   » Read Full Super Monkey Ball Adventure preview
