At this point it's hard to remember all the hoopla Wind Waker caused when it launched in 2003. Nintendo ditched the serious tone of 1998's Ocarina of Time and replaced it with a childish, Saturday morning version of always-hero Link and the kingdom of Hyrule. Many were incensed. But you know what? It's still one of the best puzzle-solving, labyrinth-crawling adventures you'll ever play. Graphics don't make everything, but here they certainly carry a bright, cheery mood through the whole game. ...

We wish the GameCube could end on a higher note, but if Zatch Bell!: Mamodo Fury is any indication, gamers should just consider BatenKaitos Origins and Twilight Princess the only options this season. If you venture beyond these greats, you may encounter Zatch Bell!'s utterly busted fighting system, and that's a scenario none of us wants to ...

You all know Sam Fisher. Muscle-bound guy, voice like a moose with a hangover and one of the leading men in video games thanks to his acrobatic sneaking, versatile gadgets, and witty knifepoint interrogation banter? Well, he's at it again in Splinter Cell: Double Agent. The excellent, albeit very familiar, stealth action gameplay is spiced up by the fact that Sam now has to serve two masters, juggling opposing objectives in order to maintain their trust - and stay alive. Trust is the crux of ...

Before the sexy, adventurous Lara Croft debuted in 1996's Tomb Raider, female video game leads were rarer than Sega games on Nintendo systems. Ten years later, both phenomena are quite common. Unfortunately, the world's most famous game grrrl fell on hard times thanks to a deluge of increasingly terrible sequels. In fact, after 2003's awful Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, many felt the series was beyond ...

Cooking, cleaning and using the toilet are, we hope, not the highlights of most people's lives. Why, then, do we find it so fascinating to watch those modern day sea monkeys, the Sims, go about these same insignificant routines? It all comes down to fundamentals - gameplay and presentation. Ordering a Sim to serve dinner to his family, take out the garbage and then hit the john is so effortless and intuitive that, in the same span of time, you could also specify for him to serve grilled cheese ...

Avatar: The Last Airbender, an anime-styled cartoon on Nickelodeon, has gained quite a respectable following for a show that was originally targeted at younger viewers. In a mythical world of four quarrelling nations (Air, Earth, Water, and Fire), the Avatar named Aang is the only one who can bring peace and stability through harnessing all four elemental powers. The show combines an entertaining mix of humor, drama, and likable characters that has drawn in a wide demographic of viewers. ...

Thursday 19 October 2006 The first thing we thought when we woke up this morning was: today, we really want to play a game where you not only have to clean yourself, go to the toilet, do the dishes and tidy the house, but also clean the dog, feed the dog, take it for walks, play with it and then let it sleep on your bed because you can't afford a dog basket. Then we realised we were half asleep. Because that sounds like a dull and dreary life, let alone a game to play for fun.More tedious than ...

People often rip on Madden for coming out every year with nothing but minor tweaks. Well, we feel inclined to mention that the first Clash of Ninja was released in March...of this year. It was an exceptionally energetic anime scrapper that looked just like the cartoon on which it's based upon and offered enough action for all styles of fighting fans. And here we have Ninja 2, essentially the same game with just a handful of enhancements. And you know what? They're more than enough. First off, ...

With the last exciting titles for the dying GameCube now being transported to Wii (Super Paper Mario, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess), Nintendo seems to be forcing their fans to consider just one option: buy a new console. These days, there just aren't that many games for GameCube-owning Nintendoholics to look forward to. Except one - Baten Kaitos Origins, an RPG sequel that plays its cards right by not only delighting fans of the first quest, but also welcoming newcomers with its ...

Mario Party practically invented the party game, a sort of video board game where winning relied almost as much on luck as actual skill. Love it or hate it, the thing sold gangbusters, inspiring a legion of clones often based on kiddy anime licences. One Piece: Pirates' Carnival is the latest of these, featuring the lovable and wacky cast of Shonen Jump's famous "One Piece" manga / anime. But unlike most of its peers, Pirates' Carnival does enough stuff right to actually make it worth a play or ...
