EA: Metacritic rating a 'very big deal'

Electronic Arts sees rating as more important than money

In a meeting with Wall Street analysts, EA head John Riccitiello has lashed out at the company's average metacritic score, which last year dropped from 77 to 72.

"There is nothing acceptable about that," Riccitiello says. "Our core game titles are accurately measured and summarized by these assessments, and that is a very big deal.

"So this is perhaps, to me, the most important chart in this presentation, we need to recover here."

Despite this, Riccitiello seems to be unwilling to push a company agenda of pursuing a good metacritic score. "The process often gets in the way more than it helps," he said. "That sort of circus has unfortunately sort of defined our company for too long. And it's not a good process."

So if Riccitiello isn't looking to chase metacritic ratings, then surely the only way to increase them is to release higher quality games, isn't it?
