Welcome to the monthly roundup of the weird, the wonderful and the ever so slightly perverted things that wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the inspiration provided by 30-odd years of Nintendo gaming.

1) Witch-touching special edition
Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, aka the witch-touching game, is every nerd’s guilty pleasure. But the special edition sequel - which comes with figurines, a dangly thing and a picture of a girl wearing a sweater that you can remove by warming it with your hand - is both massively overpriced and completely sold out. Some eBay time is in order, perhaps.

2) Nintendo Halo
Machinima is the art of creating movies using videogames, and is something Xbox 360 favourite Halo 3 is particularly well suited to. This clip puts Halo characters in parodies of various Nintendo games, from Pokemon Snap to Super Mario Bros. It’s nicely executed, quite funny and well worth a look.

3) Super Mario sweets
We got this picture from NGamer reader Joshua Glasson, who spotted these fruity beauties in a supermarket in Cyprus. Unfortunately, the tease didn’t actually send us any because he “does everything by email” so we can only imagine how lovely they might taste. Oh well…

4)  Moms go crazy for Wii Fit
Chatshow host and Mark Green lookalike Ellen Degeneres sent her studio audience into a freebie frenzy when she presented them all with Wii consoles and Wii Fit balance boards. They leapt around, punched the air and hugged one another for joy, burning up as many calories as an all-out session of virtual hula-hooping.

5)  King of decoration
Pink DS not quite girly enough? You need one of these customised bejeweled jobs, straight from Japan. While they’re hardly cheap, you can guarantee a few envious glances and maybe the odd mugging should you whip one of these out at your local bus stop.

6)  Pac grenade
Artist Peter Gronquist created these hybrid Pac-Man/hand grenade key rings. Presumably they don’t actually explode, so you’ll be safe to take them through airport security, but at $350 each you wouldn’t want these gold-plated beauties rattling around in your pockets with your keys.

7) 99 Tears wine
Lonely Japanese businessmen can stop by Tokyo’s upscale Vinoteca wine bar and sample a special vintage commissioned by Namco to tie in with their 99 no Namida game. It translates as ‘99 Tears’, and is basically a collection of sob stories that you read while weeping into your expensive Pinot.

8)  Wii song
NGamer reader Adam Paul has written and performed a couple of songs about Wii and DS, which he kindly sent us the YouTube link for. Being in an open-plan office we immediately turned the volume off, so we can’t comment on the quality of his singing. That’s our excuse, anyway. If you’re braver than us, check ‘em out:
 

9) Taxi for Mario
Americans had to wait slightly longer than the British for their Mario Kart Wii launch. Their compensation came in the form of this publicity stunt in New York, where Mario himself wandered the streets, hailing taxis for people and paying the bill in advance. What a guy!

10)  Link’s shoes
This is what Link wears on his feet. Not when he’s out doing heroic deeds, mind, because he probably needs proper laces for that, so his shoes don’t come flying off when he’s trying to curb-stomp a Stalfos or whatever. But when he’s relaxing at home, we imagine he’d be sporting a pair of these babies.
