Videogame music makes Star Wars better

VIDEO: See Episode IV improved with an 8-bit redub

Words: David Houghton, GamesRadar UK

The first shot of the first Star Wars film is amazing. Groundbreaking at the time and still hugely effective now, the opening Star Destroyer fly-by is dramatic, ominous and awe-inspiring all at the same time.

It's awesome, but we wanted it to be awesomer. Being massive fans of videogame music, we saw only one option, but could we find a track to beat the threatening bombast of John Williams' original score?

Hell yes we could. Over to Mario...

And there’s more where that came from. We’re cooking up a whole load of movie/game music mash-ups, including (amongst others) the likes of Reservoir Dogs, The Matrix and The Terminator. This first one is just a taster of what’s to come, so tune in at the same time next Friday for more.

Hmm... I'm not really sure what to think. It sounded cool, but... I don't know, you just can't seperate the original music from that scene. But, I do think that replacing movie music with game music is a great idea and you guys should definitely continue with other movies.

If you listen closely to the music after the voice over for the Six Million Dollar Man intro (right after VO says "faster"), it actually fits in closely with the main riff in Castlevania's Bloody Tears.

How about one with Flammie's flying song from Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) cut to the flying sequences in Neverending story.

I loved this one, I thought it was awesome, I'd like to see more.

@Lava_lamp
i thought it was pretty lame, the sounds used for the guns made me Lol a tiny bit. but we all have to admit its definitely an interesting idea.

I wonder what would happen if you got the sound effects from an awesome game like Mario, and then put it in a horrible game based movie (like Mario)

My god that's a lot more funny than I thought it would be at first. Just goes to show ya, it's the simple things that we really cherish.
