Regal crushes Ansem with a monologue about never again using his heartbroken hands to commit murder. The Main Character from Persona 3 takes out Regal by staring him down from beneath a fringe of greasy black hair. The Main Character then loses to Shuyin, because Shuyin’s actually had sex – so he knows what he’s missing out on by dying. And Cloud defeats Shuyin in both Square Enix seniority and quantity of spiky hair to become the end-all, be-all most emo character of all JRPGs...
...until Gackt took over Final Fantasy VII continuity. There is nothing more emo than a guy with 1) spiky hair and 2) a long trench coat, who 3) reads aloud from a play called LOVELESS.
Face it, it doesn’t get more emo than that.
