Gary Ross talks Hunger Games

As we reported yesterday , a first teaser trailer has been released by Lionsgate for upcoming adaptation The Hunger Games . And whilst footage of Jennifer Lawrence in action was undoubtedly enough to pique the interest, many fans were underwhelmed by the lack of substance on display in this slightest of previews.

However, director Gary Ross has been quick to reassure viewers that what they will see in the finished article will be a lot more exciting than this bland first glimpse.

“Look, we’re still shooting,” he told MTV , “so unfortunately, it’s just a teaser. We could only give you a little bit because we’re still down here making the movie. There’s a lot of things to come that I think are going to be hugely epic and very emotional and incredibly powerful.”

All of which sound fair enough to us. In all likelihood, Ross probably wasn’t over-keen on having his baby placed in the media spotlight before it’s halfway finished, but studios do like to whip their audiences into a frenzy.

One thing Ross does sound happy with is the look of the film, with The Capitol (home to this alternate America’s most rich and powerful citizens) set to be as visually arresting as it’s described in the book.

“I think that we’ve done wonderful things with the mutts [ genetically altered animals bred in The Capitol ],” he said. “I think that we’ve done a tremendous job in bringing the Capitol to life. I think that’s going to be really, really exciting for people to see.”

Meanwhile, Lionsgate has followed up Sunday’s teaser with a new viral website . You may have noticed the hashtag #WhatsMyDistrict at the end of the trailer – well it turns out, the more people tweet it, the clearer the image on the site’s homepage. So that’s this morning sorted then…
