Still don't understand why you excepted to see the new smash bros that was started in march, so the biggest let down should be the lack of vita news since thats really unacceptable when everything thinks your system is worst off then the 3ds was at this point.

South Park should get an award solely for being a gift from the heavens!

I think Dead or Alive should have won something. Maybe most "Holy shit!"s per minute? Also, the Zombi U trailer was good, but just reminded me too much of Dead Island.

Pikmin 3 was Nintendo's savior or one of its saviors. Nintendoland looked awful.

..I am sorry, but I have to attack the winner of best Trailer that didn't actually show the game. That cheap Dead Island trailer knock-off? seriously??? Were you guys blind to the fact that we've already seen this before... Just, you know, done hundreds of times better? I mean, seriously, the blatant attempt to copy the Dead Island trailer's success can't be obvious to just me, can it? -Use a slow paced, emotional melody to increase the poignancy of the violence on-screen? check. -Have a time manipulation gimmick to accentuate on the gore and shock of the outbreak? check. -Have the showcase be showing controversial and vulnerable targets being turned, or about to be turned into zombies? Check. And the thing is... None of those things it copies are better done here. Stopping time and freeze into a scene doesn't have the same dynamic and surprise and novelty as seeing it happen in reverse motion. Showing a guy about to kill himself and a woman being eaten isn't nearly as tragic as seeing a vacationing family, including a woman and a little child, be the victims. And, I'm sorry, but unless you are British, (Which most people in the world aren't. Sorry Britts, but it's the truth.) that song doesn't really carry any kind of big emotional impact as a deeply melancholic violin song does. So yeah... Frankly, I'm Baffled you guys bought into a lesser version of a trailer we've already seen before, only done better.

The difference between ZombiU and Dead Island's trailers are that Dead Islands trailer was technically a promo 'film' created by an Animation Studio non-affiliated with the games developer, Techland. And the game was nowhere near as beautiful to look at or play as anticipated. Whereas ZombiU's trailer was developed in full by Ubisoft, and so far the in-game graphics and gameplay look solid and beautiful. So, as fas as originality goes, perhaps Ubisoft was more influenced by DI's trailer, rather than trying to carbon copy it. Just sayin.
  • BladedFalcon - June 13, 2012 7:10 p.m.

The difference you mentioned though, ahs absolutely no bearings in the quality and content of the trailer itself. I don't care who created the trailers of why. That doesn't have any relevance in the product itself, which is the trailer. And the fact is, that the ZombiU trailer is a rip-off of the DI's trailer. Simple as that. I would buy more into your argument of the ZombiU trailer being "Influenced" by the DI trailer if it had only drawn from the premise of showing innocent, normal people being stuck in horrible situations with zombies all of a sudden. But this is not the case at all, they copied the style, they copied the tone of the music, they copied the entire theme of the other trailer. It might not be a cut and paste copy. But it's undeniable that the trailer was way more than just "influenced" by the Dead Island one. And i should add that immediacy is also a factor. I wouldn't have minded this trailer at all if it had come out a few more years later, and more zombie games had passed. But ZombiU is pretty much the next full fledged "zombie" game to come out since Dead island, and not a year after. So the shameless similarity of the trailer is all the more jarring because of that.
  • mentalityljs - June 14, 2012 3:26 p.m.

I agree, the similarities were unmistakable. An alternate scenario may also be that it was Ubisoft's intentions to copy DI from the beginning, as a way of making an example out of Techland and their 'false advertising', so long as ZombiU is capable of delivering a more solid game experience. Because let's be honest, DI was a broken pile of shit, and a major let down considering all the hype it received.
  • BladedFalcon - June 14, 2012 4:21 p.m.

Again, I was merely comparing the trailers, not the games. I have never denied or debated that DI failed to deliver on it's hype, and I have not said a single bad thing or questioned ZombiU's potential. All I stated was that for me, whatever the reason behind it, the ZombiU's trailer was a shameless rip-off of a much better trailer, and for that reason alone, it doesn't deserve to win the best trailer award.

Technically, the AC games don't involve time travel as Desmond is viewing the memories from the near future, but I'm splitting hairs. That said, I just don't see how a dance game could have a better story than a AAA title.

Good for you Ubisoft, you had the top two games at E3.
