Every 3D Sonic: fear of talking animals or fear of overstaying your welcome. I have no idea if there's an actual term for these fears...

The eye thing in Dead Space 2 was painful to watch.
  • J-Fid - October 30, 2012 8:45 a.m.

Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia: Fear of long words. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. (Not really one word, but close enough. I'm sure there are better examples.)
  • JarkayColt - October 30, 2012 9:32 a.m.

Holy hell, is that phobia name for real!? I think the best and only example you'll ever find is right there staring you in the face! In terms of levels of irony, it's probably the phobia equivalant of the word "dyslexia" for how inappropriatly mocking it looks. Also, woe upon thee, for you obviously didn't read the old GamesRadar article of game names longer than Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Or at least, I believe that was the premise of said article.
  • J-Fid - October 30, 2012 10:29 a.m.

No I actually did, but I forgot everything in the article (and was too lazy to find it). I just went with the cover game, since it is long enough, and it would remind people (like you) of that old article.

I feel enlightened. Never before did I suspect that "fear of belly buttons" was an actual thing that existed. I mean...what the actual hell? On top of that, the revelation that surgeons express fear before operating is ever so slightly disconcerting. Looks like someone just read Wikipedia's "list of phobias" though! Oh wait, here's a good one, "ipovlopsychophobia", the fear of being photographed. Pokémon Snap; the "fuzzy pickles" guy from EarthBound; the checkpoints in the original Rayman; loads you could have for that one.

How do you say fear of psychotics in Bioshock?
  • occasionalgoldfish - October 30, 2012 5:01 a.m.

Mass Effect: Xenophobia (fear of strangers, foreigners, or aliens)
  • NanoElite666 - October 29, 2012 10:31 p.m.

Dark Souls: Thanatophobia: Fear of dying. Make it happen.
  • Aarononymous - October 29, 2012 9:05 p.m.

Pikmin - Molluscophobia (fear of slugs and snails). This one applies, but it makes the game much more awesome.
  • Zaneer568 - October 29, 2012 5:57 p.m.

Astraphobia: Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightning me!
  • Pwnz0r3d - October 29, 2012 5:34 p.m.

I have a gigantic fear of wide open spaces and heights, but Minecraft and Mirror's Edge don't affect me in the slightest. But Minecraft's mine shafts do make me uneasy, something about the claustrophobic setting.
  • keenan-murphy - October 29, 2012 7:52 p.m.

    Nice sssssstuff you got there....sssssssssssssssss
  • taokaka - October 29, 2012 4:55 p.m.

Firstly, are you really sure decidophobia is the fear of decisisions, it sounds far too logical and straightforward. For safety's sake I'm going to call it my made up name ferminginatoricalbacktradopiphobia. Secondly, for your last point you could still play flower. Also I'm going to have to say if you're barophobic (fear of gravity) then avoid gravity rush or AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! a reckless disregard for gravity.
  • EAC73 - October 29, 2012 4:35 p.m.

Hydrophobia: Hydrophobia, though its a bad game.
  • KidKatana - October 30, 2012 2:31 a.m.

Weirdly, hydrophobia is actually another name for rabies, as in the later stages of the disease victims usually become panicked when presented with water as they can't drink it. Aquaphobia is a fear of water. Well, that's my piece of pointless trivia done.
  • The_King_of_Nothing - October 29, 2012 4:10 p.m.

Minecraft should've had another one in a mine for claustrophobia or maybe fear of mineshafts.
  • JMarsella09 - October 29, 2012 3:57 p.m.

MGS3: Apiphobia (fear of BEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS), my real life fear by the way.
  • J-Fid - October 29, 2012 8:09 p.m.

Oh the awful images you have given me. I actually thought that would be on this list. I was all prepared to quickly skip that slide if there was one.
  • BladedFalcon - October 29, 2012 3:54 p.m.

As someone who draws blood for samples every day, and that isn't really afraid of needles at all... I would still find the eye poker in Dead Space 2 to be very effing terrifying.
