Fringe to air on Sky One

Sky One has nabbed the rights for Fringe, JJ Abrams' new TV show. Co-created with Transformers and Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, it follows a young FBI agent who teams up with an institutionalised scientific genius to solve unexplained phenomena.

Is it the new X-Files? Sky One head of acquisitions David Smyth certainly hopes so, saying it "will thrill a new generation of viewers much like The X-Files did 15 years ago".

It's set to air in the autumn, and interestingly, it's the first SF show of the upcoming new US season to get picked up by a British broadcaster. With the likes of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse on the way, hopefully this will prompt the other channels to follow suit...
