Fringe: September's Notebook book review .
Titan Books are spoiling us. A few months ago they brought us The Essential Supernatural , a coffee table book that came so jam-packed with goodies it almost burst at the seams. Much the same effort has been expended on this Fringe title, from fold-out spreads to “case file” cards to pictures suitable for framing (our fave is the “Resist” Etta image from the final season), to Observer tattoos to slap on your face. Even pages that don't have gifts appear to be three-dimensional – you'll catch yourself running a finger down them to check nothing folds out or comes off. It a Fringe fan's dream come true.
The book's written from the perspective of Observer September, collating everything we saw across five seasons into his notes. The authors have caught his essence (innocent and fascinated) and it's nice to imagine he's really talking, but the designers have stolen the thunder from all the text, simply by putting together such a gloriously visual treat. In fact, there's only one thing wrong with this book: now we've seen it (and its Supernatural equivalent), we want one for every show currently airing.
