When I started to play my old PS2 too much, it was a horrible time in my life, I'm still recovering.

Probably about 2002-03 when I had my PS2. I just didn't have any games I liked to play and there wasn't anything out that really interested me. I stopped reading gaming magazines so I had no idea what was going on and I was just disenfranchised with gaming after almost two decades of it. Then in 2004 I got an Xbox and Xbox Live and I've been hugely into it again ever since then.

I never had it come to me as a decision, normally I go through phases of activity / inactivity but never once have I thought "I Game No More!"

Two times- I wanted to give up PC FPS when counterstrike and battlefield all of a sudden made me feel like I was digging a grave towards complete utter boredom, then all these Source mods started appearing before I thought about getting Xbox live 5 years ago and that other time when I overwrote that 100% complete save for GTASA and dropped a magnet near my computer within the same 2 months

I actually gave up gaming for about a month or two around November/December last year. It was mid-terms season, and there was so much family chaos going around, couple relatives passing, new pet for my family, I simply didn't have the time for games. Oddly enough, I still had time for TalkRadar.

The day I realized the Wii sucked.

This was a very sad day in my life, as this was the only console I had gotten my grubby hands on since the PS2. I had to endure hearing how awesome both the xbox and the 360 were with no hope of ever getting either.

Hmm I know it sounds stupidly unrealistic, but I see no reason to start lying now, even if it is on the internetz. Anyway's, I had a rough as hell time with my now ex-girlfriend around June last year, of whom I was with for a year and a half. She had moved 350 miles north of me and there was nothing I could do what with being in my final year of college I had even less of a choice.

So a year goes by and as I finish up college, I spent a lot of money to go stay up there and finally see her again. Turns out I travelled 350 miles to get dumped in public which then proceeded to get me beaten up. I know it sounds stupidly unrealistic, but I see no reason to start lying now, even if it is on the internetz.

Upon returning home I just gamed the living shit out of my 360, killed two of them with RROD and E74 before taking a second to recognize I had bought just wayyy too much that I could physically play. Yeah, I've nearly given up from having TOO much to play... ******* idiot, right? :(

Honestly, I consider giving up gaming nearly every day.

When I pick up a controller and I realize how good I was at games as a kid, and how absolutely terrible I am at them now.. I always have that little tiny thought in the back of my mind that says.. "Give it up, find something else.."

But, I continue to survive. I continue buying new games and being horrible at them, and have fun doing it, and that's all that really matters I guess.

I thought about it when I checked my Pokemon time on blue and saw it reached 200+ hours. It made me feel both warm, and sick. Like someone just vomited on my chest.

Actually, never. My parents are not fans of video games or anything having to do with them, so I kept waiting for a game that would show them that games could be art, like music or movies. That game was BioShock; and it worked!

Although, Brett, yours is a pretty good one (TalkRadar Episode 46, if anyone is wondering what I'm talking about).

ok.
couple years back when my wife was still my girl, we decided that since my craptastic job scheduled me to work on valentine's day that we would do something special on the weekend. the night before my best friend calls me stoned out of his mind, with a unbelievable offer. He came into a bit of money, and got the idea in his head that he must own this sweet 53'' hdtv, and he had to have it the next day so he could enjoy his vacation with some xbox 360 hd goodness. He asked me to call off of work and help him rearrange his apartment. In return he would gave me his old 42'' tv, buy me my first xbox 360, and pay my wages for the day, (sounds unreal right?).
so I of course jumped at this, being working poor it was too good to be true. However, in all the excitement I kinda, sort of forgot it was valentine's day.
It goes without saying when I came home with a new tv, an xbox, and a pocket full of cash, for some reason my girlfriend wasn't happy, go figure. After two days of fighting and no loving. I swore off videogames of all kinds
that lasted about two weeks and I was miserable. Finally she grabbed the unopened xbox from a closet and forced me to relieve some tension.

Never had a moment where I decided gaming just wasn't worth it. The thing is, video games aren't this relatively new media like they where to a lot of gamers. I grew up with gaming in it's current 3D form. I grew up with Halo, and I grew up with GTA. It's such a part of me now, I couldn't give it up even if I tried.

The moment I considered giving up gaming is when the 360 was first coming out and I had no money and my parents don't pay for my games. The rest should be self explanatory. In the end I got draged back in when I saw that Halo 3 was comming out and I bought the specal eddition 360.

Hasn't happened yet, though gaming's always managed to stay peripheral to the main going-ons of my life. I'm just a lucky sumbitch.

When i tried to show all of my friends and classmates a halo 2 strategy guide, they all looked at me like i was crazy and shunned me because i loved halo so much and talked about it all the time. i realized that i needed to stop, and stopped gaming in general. 3 months later, i bought battlefield 2142 off a friend and got a 360, and i have been happily gaming ever since
