I can't recall who submitted the question (I'll dig up the name tomorrow, I'm buried in messages!), but yeah, here's 23!

Idea is - games you went above and beyond for, something you HAD to have and nothing was gonna stop you. Maybe you mowed a billion lawns or got straight As or sold everything you owned, who knows... let's hear 'em!

DRRR!!!! Miss read the question

Super smash bro's. Knew how much it was, how much I had and what I needed to do to get it. It was Late April (I believe) when it came out. Now I already had the system, but I needed the game. So now that it's summer I can mow lawns? nooo, **** that, I ended up selling something.... something sweet. Something, at that time, was worth an ass load. I sold my Charizard.

Now I don know if you remember, but God were Pokemon cards big at that time. I had gone to my local Shinders (IDK if there were world wide, but they were my local cards shop) and sold the best card I had. I got $80 for it. enough for the game, as well as a bunch of candy and a pizza. That night I played SSB till my eyes bled out with 2 of my friends...... god good times.

Happy Day!! I think it's my question.. could be wrong though...

Anywho, Mines kind of lame but whatever...

Back in '05 I went on this old school gaming faze where I went out and bought old system cuz i was still living at home and had a job. Everything was easy to find except a Dreamcast, sure I could go online but I like the hunt, I drove to Santa Cruz, three hours away, to buy one from this guy and it came with 2 controllers and like 5 bargain bin games. Well I got home and my controller ports were not working so I had to go online and lean to sodder. I finally fixed it and bought and played through MDK 2, Skies Of Arcadia, Shenmu, Sonic Adventures, and OWN at Capcom VS SNK. ^_^

I sold my body for Harvest Moon 64.

But no, really.
Back in about 5th Grade, I wanted this game so badly.
Some of you may recall back in school, the fundraisers they threw,
by giving you candy bars to go door to door to sell.

I signed up with evil intentions. :)

I didn't let my parents know jack about it.
Usually, I didn't give a damn about this.
I sold more candy bars, faster then flash on crack.
I hit up the entire neighborhood, and then some.

I earned enough money to purchase the game, and did so.
Of course, it ends on a sour note.
I got in massive trouble with the school, and ended up getting expelled.
I had to throw away the game, and work back all the money I stole.

I never even got to play the godamn thing.

But I thought it fit this question.

Mortal Kombat for Genesis when it first game out. I was about 10 or 11 and of course that was the all the rage to bash in the news then...saying if your kids play the game it will turn them into serial killer rapists. SO my parents said I couldn't get it. But I fought and fought and after a couple of months I finally got it. After that they stopped caring what I played. Back then there weren't that many mature games like there are now, though.

EDITED FOR STUPIDITY:

Yeah...I misread the question too. Well, lets just say I froze my ass off for my Nintendo Wii (Ironic huh...cuz I hardly play the damn thing).

About 3 years ago, Buffalo NY was hit by this huge snowstorm in October...aptly named The October Surprise. Buffalo is used to snow, it's not a big deal. The problem was that is was the beginning of October so all of the trees were unable to handle the storm. MEANING-all of the leaves were still on most, if not all the trees and with the added snowfall we received, it weighed down all the trees. This made the trees crack and break and get ripped out of the ground. This then caused county-wide power losses because the trees tore down many powerlines...and because of so many powerlines going down, it blew many transistors...only to further down more power.

In a few words...we were screwed. Thankfully, my wife and I were living with my dad and brother so there were four of us to take care of all the crap we had to do since we didn't have power...FOR THE NEXT 10 DAYS. Think about it, two huge gamers forced to sit around with nothing to while freezing your ass off cuz you don't have any heat or power.

So that all leads up to my story. It just so happens that EBgames/Gamestop was going to begin taking preorders for the Nintendo Wii during the October Storm, which put me in a dilemma...do I go to the store anyway? Do they even have power? I figured...Hell I don't have anything to do anyway, I'm gonna be sitting around cold anyway, might as well be in line just in case.

Well, it just so happened that they did have power so the Pre-order was on! The problem was that their computers were fried. So, I've been sitting outside for about 4 hours before the doors even opened, then to find out that their computers are fried so they WONT be taking any preorders that day. Well, I wasn't convinced... I said, I've been sitting here all day anyway, I'm gonna stick it out and see what happens.

So, after about another hours, we find out that their computers are fine but it's their modem that screwed up (those of you who work retail know that you can't sell anything without the computer being able to scan the item and track where it goes and how much was paid.) Then, the guys say...we're talking to our DM, he's gonna bring a new modem. Now remember, Buffalo is pretty much undriveable at this point do to fallen snow, trees, powerlines, deadcars... It's like Fallout:Buffalo.

After another 3 hours the DM shows up with the modem...only to find out that THAT modem was also dead and not working (don't know why they didn't try it before he came) but luckly, the DM had another one he brought just in case. After another hour of playing around with the servers and such...the store opens for business and I pre-order my Nintendo Wii...

Fast Forward to today...where I am waiting to play it still but only because I'm waiting for some more titles to come to the system...but just like my story, I'm just going to be patient cuz eventually I'll end up getting what I want.

The summer after Ocarina of Time came out, I played it at my cousins house, and I HAD to have this game.

I had an N64, but not very many games for it. I was in middle school when this game came out, so I couldn't save the money from my job, but I did work around the house, mowed lawns around the neighborhood, and saved every penny I could. Eventually I got the game, at the end of the summer. I played and played it, got about halfway through it, then school started. Going there and doing homework prevented me from playing it as much. After a couple weeks of a lot less gaming, I decided to sacrifice some sleep. My parents wouldn't let me stay up past 9, but I could get up as early as I wanted, so I decided to get up 2 hours earlier, so I could play it.

Eventually the load from school lessened, and I could go back to a normal schedule, and I beat the game (the first of many). That Christmas I got the guide, and beat the game 100%, just over the break, with the guide, then I decided I wanted to try to do it with out the guide. It took me a while to get everything, and I did cheat a couple times, but I did get it again 100%.

Even now when there is no other games to play, I pick it up and run through it again. Between all the hours getting both 100% saves on my cart. and all the time logged in emulators, I have no idea how much time I have spent in this game, but it is probably the most of any.

Ace Combat 5, with out a question. Beating the game on Ace difficulty is probably the hardest thing to do. One mission in particular is increadibly difficult. White Out requires you to find a downed pilot from your squadron using a sound system that beeps faster when you are on the right bearing and beeps slower when you are going away. for the longest time i was stuck on that level, i couldn't do anything about it, because the enemy soldiers on the ground found her before i could find her. so i picked the fastest plane you can fly in that game, the MiG-31, problem was, after you found her, you had to defend the rescue helo from a swarm of enemy fighters, and the MiG-31 is not designed to be a fighter, 15 minutes later, and a bucket full of sweat and enough banter with my friend who was with me at the time to write Top Gun 2, i beat the level. i was so releaved, and i thought that was the last of it, turns out there was another 10 levels before i was done.

SHIT!

I was hardcore into Dark Wizard for Sega CD at the time and I had invested many hours into it. I played it every single day and was getting ready to finish it. One day I turned it on and my Sega CD RAM cart somehow deleted itself, and I lost not only all of my Sega CD game saves, but I lost my temper as well. I pulled the entire Sega Genesis and CD unit out of my entertainment center, gathered up all my games for both systems, and promptly sold the entire lot to a man who worked in his family owned store called Horn's Market. As I sold it to him, he queried if I was upgrading to a Jaguar. "No," I told him. "I'm buying a Sony PlayStation."

I bought a PlayStation console along with Doom using the money I got from selling the Sega games. Soon I realized that nothing was really coming out for the system that interested me, and I was starting to regret ever selling my Sega Genesis and Sega CD to get it. Ultimately, I ended up trading the PlayStation to a friend of mine for his Sega Genesis, Sega CD, and all of his games. The man at Horn's would later be quoted as saying, "Kind of self-defeating, dont you think?" as I bought back almost all of the games I originally sold him. I say almost all the games, because all of the games I sold him were not in his store for rent. Mysteriously absent were Golden Axe 2 and Pac-Mania, and to this day I have never found Pac-Mania again. I should never have given him my RAM cart, either. I guess I never intended on owning a Sega CD again after I sold it.

That's about the only story I have that isn't, "Went to the store with some money, bought the game, brought it home."

Rock Band 2, because my mom is afraid i might get abducted, and i live in the suburbs, so i cannot get any money from anybody. Unfortuanely, my PSP broke, and I can'd afford to get it fixed, so I sold all of my psp games to get it.

About a year ago I had made up my mind: I was getting a PS3. But i didn't have that kinda dough jus' lyin' around. (What does this look like, a bakery?) Like a sign from Jebus, my mom came up to me out of the blue and said,

"[Whatserface] is remodeling her house and her boyfriend is willing to pay you to help him do it." I about shit myself.
"How much?!"
"$10 an hour for 2 weeks."
"Hot damn, when do I start!?"
"Soon, and btw, she lives in North Carolina, you'll have to stay with her"

Ewie. My mother has poor taste in...everything. Her friend is almost certainly insane. Oh dear god, was she. Turns out this is the friend who's husband committed suicide, leaving her to raise their autistic daughter alone, and become what some people might call "Independant," but I've seen first hand enough to know that that bitch is just ******* crazy.

This is going to be hell. I know that. But I was beginning to be repulsed by the sight of my Wii, and I need that PS3.

So I get there. She has 3 tiny dogs. That piss themselves. And then jump in your lap. One of them ACTAULLY pisses ON ITSELF. They think it's hilariously cute. I want to drop-kick them into the neighbors yard, but her BF is signing my paychecks. The guy himself is OK, likes good music and food, doesn't try to talk to me too much. But I only stay with him during the daylight hours.

At night, it began.

At first, she just seemed like she was trying to be polite, "Oh, hi Tom. Comfy? OK, hungry? Alright just checking." Then shit started getting awkward. "Y'know, Tom, you really don't seem to play with my 12 year old autistic daughter much. Why is that?" (I may be paraphrasing there) I am, of course, at a complete loss for words. That's OK, she has more to say. "You know about [daughter]'s ausbergurs." (A type of autism that is pronounced assburgers) I now cannot get the phrase "ASSBURGERS ASSBURGERS ASSBURGERS" out of my head, and, naturally, find this funny. But I can't laugh, oh no, because she hasn't picked up on my discomfort, and has continued to try to win my pity. "Y'know, her father...died(suicide)..." OK. **** it. You win lady. I'm about to burst out laughing at your goddamn daughters stupid, stupid assburgers, and you're telling me about your entire tragic life. I wait until she lightens up a bit, and makes a joke about turtles or something, which she notes I find oddly hilarious, and proceeds to force feed me other bits of turtular levity throughout the remainder of my long, hellish stay. ****. But I got through that little episode, which was much longer and a thousand times more awkward than that, only to find myself in an endless sea of awkwardness and pure, unadultered terror. I will not go into these other episodes, as this'n captures to mood fairly well, and I am aware that this is already a big mutha fuggin post.

But know this, dear reader, I went though 2 weeks of absolute terror. I cannot stress how awful those two weeks were, and still are in my crystal clear memory.

But I got my mother ******* PS3, and I ******* love it.

The game that jumps out to me is Conker's Bad Fur Day. I was only 14 when that game came out, and my mom sure as hell wasn't gonna buy it for me. This was around the same time I started hanging out a lot with my best friend, who is Puerto Rican. One day we go to the mall with his mom, who doesn't speak English very well at all, and we pass by a Babbage's. "THIS IS MY CHANCE", I thought.

I said, "Hey, let's see what games are out" and they both follow me into the store. I ask the guy behind the counter to get me BFD, and before the guy has a chance to ask the inevitable, I whip my head up and pretend to have a nosebleed. I turn to my friend and his mom, give them $70, and tell them to pay for it while I get cleaned up. I dick around in the bathroom for a few minutes and come back to a game full of shit jokes.

Easy- Marvel Vs Capcom 2 for the Original Xbox.

A friend of mine randomly mentioned he owned this rare gem of a game..I immediately hit him up.
"How much do you want for it?"
He slightly knew of the rarity...so I traded an easy 25$ and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (Xbox) for it.

Maybe not too in-depth, but what I ended up with is worth it..haha
