Was there ever a time where this little hobby oÂ? ours put you in direct opposition to a group of people?

For example: Long ago, I used the word Â?pwnedÂ? in casual conversation with a group of non gamers. Silence... Not only did they not get it, I made myself look like an even bigger tool by trying to explain it. NOTE: Never do that!

On MGS4's day of release, I couldn't concentrate on nothin'. A couple of non-gamer friends asked what was going on, and I was so distracted, I told them the truth. Their faces were the definition of blank.

In an investors meeting, I refered to our outlook on the world as "genetically different."

*laughs* Shockingly, two guys in their mid-40s got the reference. Everyone else just looked puzzled.

pretty much every time I try to tell my non-gamer friends about a game I'm excited about, they look at me with such a pity and misunderstanding, I always feel urged to switch the subject... and maybe buy them a cookie.

In first grade, I brought in a copy of Super Smash Bros. for show-and-tell. My friend high-fived me, but everybody else laughed. My asshole teacher said, "Now remember everybody, Austin only gets to play video games after his homework."

Dad : "Son, are you going to go outside and play some football with your friends today?"
Me : "No."
Dad : "Why not?"
Me : "Cuz Sephiroth is about to get his ass kicked."
Dad gives me a look of shame.

Well I got into an argument about Mass Effect and god with a few of my friends who believe in god to an extent that's not healthy.

Yes, whenever I start talking about the games I want this upcoming fall, all i get is blank stares from all the people around me. It breaks my heart that they can't be as excited for Dead Space as I am.

I've talked with "gamers" at work before about games. But apparently they weren't real gamers, they were just trying to be cool, and it was really awkward.

One time my friends and I were discussing economics and I was explaining how the changing value of different currencies have an effect inflation. When they asked me which country (or case study) I was referring to I said FInal Fantasy XI.

Also, my Dad found my copy of Final Fantasy: Spirits Within and thought it was a porno. I quickly defended myself by saying it was actually a cartoon.

i was in my bedroom playing BF:BC when my neighbors were having a garden party, my bedroom faces out into the back gardens and you can see into theirs.

My window was open while i was Killing ass but when i got killed i kept getting shot dead after i respawned in my base.

So i threw my controller and screamed to high heaven " YOU F***ING BAST*RDS! STOP MOTHER F***ING KILLING ME OR I WILL RAPE YOUR F***ING NAN".

then all of a sudden SILENCE followed. i peered out the window and there they all were looking up at me with disgust.

Twas Great! *thumbs up* not embarrassing at all

My friends were quick to poke fun at me when they saw "Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man" and "Halo Theme MJOLNER Mix" on my iPod about a year ago. They were all like, "how can you listen to that unoriginal crap?" I was like, "So, Soulja Boy is now original?"

@subarugaz - your story officially beat mine. I had a similar incident happen with me and Call of Duty 4.

3 hours? Impossible. I couldn't explain the plot of the Metal Gear story to someone that actually DID know about the series in 3 hours.

You must have left a lot out, which I'm deducing is how you maintained your sanity.

No, no. I gave up after 3 hours. I was trying to do in chronological order, and after trying to explain the relationship between Naked Snake and The Boss my head nearly exploded.

Yeah, been caught using pwnd in conversation.
Also from the past, awkward conversations, "Fatality!". Same context as when I used "pwnd" in a conversation. Surprising, since I never even really liked MK all that much. Before "pwnd" I used to say "lol" and "j/k" in conversation. But those flew, because most people had chatted before.
Earlier this year, me and some buddies were crazy for Smash Bros for a month or so, and I caught myself humming the intro while waiting in line with my gf at the time. I think I said it was something my dad used to hum to me.

I was in my American Politics class with a hoodie thats has B+X+R=pwned written on it. My teacher asked me what that was and after trying to explain what button glitches are in halo2 for about 5 minutes he said it would be better if i just took off the hoodie... I had on my legend of zelda t-shirt with a map of the 8-bit hyrule on the front that says "never forget where you came from" He looked at me and shook his head.
