Resident Evil 5: Racist?

Dear GamesRadar and fellow gamers, After reading the article on the website BlackLooks.org, I felt the need to share my thoughts with the public. If you haven't read the story posted by a Kym Platt, then you should read that first. http://www.blacklooks.org/2007/07/resident_evil_5.html I would like to start by saying that I am a "White Male", and I am not and never have been affiliated with any racist group or activity. Do I think by playing a game were a man kills people infected by the "T-Virus", or as in the case of Resident Evil 4 and maybe RE5 "Las Plagas", will encourage all the little youngsters to go out and shoot people? No, do I think that a white man killing infected black people will spread racism and encourage white kids and teens to hate black people? No, does writing a pointless article claiming a game, which hasn't even come out yet, to be racist, that actually can be considered a bit racist itself, spread racism? Yes. The fact of the matter is that this game is made by Capcom and thus made in Japan, so what now white people are held accountable for what Asians are doing, by the way, keep up the good work Capcom.I myself can't wait till the game releases, does this make me a racist, I try not to think so, to be honest. I wish it would come out sooner. The writer known as Kym Platt obviously never did any research on the subject at hand. This kind of blind ignorance does not help any cause to end racism. In my opinion Kym Platt is probably a bit racist. Here are two posts from the article, one from Kym Platt and the other from R_N. R_N: "But they… ARE zombies. They aren’t “supposed” to be zombies. If it’s any comfort, most of the zombies in the first 5 games (0-4) were white." Kym Platt:
"R_N, Yes… I am more comfortable with the zombies being white. In fact, ALL zombies should be white from this day forth." A question that I happen to think of while reading this poorly written article is, what would this person, this Kym Platt say if in Resident Evil 6 the main character was a black man killing mainly white zombies in Canada? Would it still be racist? Personally I don't think that thought would even cross this persons mind. Which just goes to say that apparently it's okay to shoot all the white zombies you want, but the second that i shoot a black zombie I'm a racist, and that my friends is called hypocrisy. The fact that this person said that, "the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults", make me wonder what kind of F#@king kid show is this person watching. The fact that this game is rated "M" for mature (which mean 17+) means that Capcom would not even bother with advertising on channels such as Cartoon Network, Nickleodeon, or Disney. Will some kids play it, yes, but a majority of players will be of proper age. I myself, 16 years old, play and love games in the Resident Evil series, and Grand Theft Auto franchise, but according to Kym Platt, this game may warp and alter my fragile little mind to hate black people, although I will be of age to legally buy this game by the time it comes out. I personally know several black teens and adults who would love to play Resident Evil 5. Of the black people I know most would never say thats its racist. They would say what the rest of the world will, "The game takes place in Africa", which if unless I'm wrong is 98% black people. In our country, for us here in America, the word racist is used far to much. There are actually very few racists left in America, aside from the KKK, whose views are wrong and disgusting. To those of you who will read this please feel free to express you views on the subject below. Sincerely,
Steel City Bum

well dude the game takes place in africa. the problem is everybody takes theses ethnic things to seriosly if theres a guy in a white hood yeling white power through the whole game then i would understand its racist but its not and i doubt that the people who made this game tryed to be all racist some people need to chill out and stop scanning sh#t if its prejudice (sry for the poor spelling) and then complaining all day.nobdy is trying to discreminate anything in the making of the game and if thers was something inpoliticly incorrect it wasent done entintualy and thats why nobody noticed till some people had to take it to seriosly

i doesnt matter what race the main character is anyway. if a black person was to play it would it be the same, and what about multi-player between different races??

You know, when they first showed the trailer for this game, I knew there would be someone somewhere who would cry 'racist' and make a big deal about 'black' zombies being killed by a white man. As a black man, let me say that I find this to be a very tired and old thing. I heard the same thing when GTA: San Andreas came out. What some see as racist, I see as a natural progression of storylines and series. With GTA, they touched on other criminal backgrounds so why not gangbangers? I didn't take offense to CJ and his crew, in fact, I embraced them and it is my favorite game out of the GTA series so far.
Now we have RE5 seemingly set in Africa. Now, to me, this seems like a perfect storyline plot. Umbrella is probably banned from operating in the U.S. and European Countries so what better place for them to go than a third-world country where the poor villagers do not have the resources to stand up to them. If I was making this series, I would have placed the story in Africa as well. To me, the game looks great and I can't wait to play it. I'm not looking at it as a white man killing black people. I'm looking at it the same way I looked at the other games, I'm just trying to survive and get through the story. Black, white, latino, asian, native american, it don't matter to me. If you're a 'zombie' trying to kill me, then I got 12-gauges for you

Personally, I want RE6, if they make it, to either be in Russia, China, Japan, or in Canada. Plus I don't think anyone will call any of those racist and I won't have to make a long post pointing out anyones stupidity.

Personaly as a latino and a gamer, I thought it was cool that the ganados in resident evil 4 spoke spanish because I speak spanish, and I could undestand them. the said thing like '' don't let him escape'' or '' there he is ''. may the same thing will happen for those who understand this language(RE5).

When Resident Evil 4 came out, it was greeted with countless awards, not claims of racism. If you really think about it, the SOCOM US Navy SEALs series have a bunch of Americans killing Terrorists, from different nations. Also Crackdown have the player(s) kill gang members from different races. All these games had issues dealing with some racism, but were all seen with high scores.
PS: GTA has shown negitive sterotypes of all kinds of people, but is still highly popular.

Of course, if the main character was an African despot or a member of an Arab militia this game would be much more realistic.

no, its not racist, its a fukkin game and is meant to be taken as such. if u are one of the imbeciles who thinks other wise. y don't u go out and create a game just as plausibly real and fun and make it an entertaining best seller. o wait u can't because u don't kno shyt about games u self rightous pricks.
and as for the whole jynx from pokemon being racist, well that is just someone looking for something to be racist. u're taking all the fun out of everything. if i worked for the pokemon people and they changed jynx's skin from black to purple i would have to quit cause that's a prissy move. who the hell are they to tell me mi make beleive character is racist..???who? no fukkin body and if u racist looker for'ers weren't here no one would have noticed. it's a kid's show for Christ's sakes, they could give one less flyin fukk about racism. all they know is i lyke this show, it's a good show can i just watch it. damn.
and for any of the other games who've cought the same hype, i sympathize for u. but mi honest advice is to not explain urself because in the end u'll be the one with the money and they'll be poor bitter racist games fighters. and if u must say somethin' to be a smart alack in retort....say well what's important is that the game is selling and that your anger amuses me.

yay for racism. Its so prevelant everywhere, yet this is what people decide to be angry at. Why be angry at a nation wide media that potrays black males (moslty) as ignorant hoods, when we can be angry at zombie killing. Im moving to *)#($) greenland...
